Re: Unofficial Overgrowth a159, weekly build
Just saw the vid and wanted to say that the AI spacing is exactly what I wanted to see: the group fighting already looks dramatically better.

Re: About the Choke from Behind... (Suggestion)
So to clarify: this is an animation suggestion and not a mechanical one?

Re: Stealth choke suggestion
I'd like the idea of that being an option rather than automatic. If you need/want to kill them quickly you can press the left mouse while you've got the knife in hand and the enemy in the hold, it does a straight slash and you can let go or drag as you want - the enemy is dead either way. Or if you'...

Re: Some help with combat?
Oh, and rolling (movement + crouch/shift) is often a good way of evading an AI's attack. The AI seems to follow the same rules on attacks so I find this is significantly safer if the opponent is running at you - if they're standing or only circling they'll often do a straight kick and rolling won't...

Re: Spear/combat balance
Ah, the humble spear. Y'know, I'm pretty sure there were some good reasons that they're the single most ubiquitous weapon in human history. And to be totally honest the spear in game presently isn't held in such a way to make it as effective as it could (and arguably should) be. RE: Game-balance Not...

Re: A poll about dismemberment...
Would be neat to have, but honestly one of the things about the fighting in this game is the aim-to-kill attacks are body and head related. You aren't going to see much if any amputation on head and torso injuries (barring maybe the occasional ear) so unless the combat evolves to have more incidenta...

Re: New moves secretly introduced?
I have to admit I'm not 100% certain what the master strikes are, BTW. I thought it was five strikes called master strokes in a manual or several, but didn't know anything else about them. I don't know about other forms, but in longsword that's right. The idea of a master strike (or stroke or cut -...

Re: New moves secretly introduced?
Yes, that really is a nice video. However, since I've been doing this for nearly a year I can say two things: Firstly, many of those techniques aren't master-strikes, but simply normal cuts used defensively to show good technique. And secondly, when they DO use master strikes the counter to a master...

Re: Throw yet not good enough?
I'm finding a similar issue, but I think it's mostly lack of practice than a particular problem. I can see the merit of both ways, so I'm really not sure. That said the game is very fast paced and sometimes the timings seem extremely strict. Some of that is intentional I'm sure, but throws are somet...

Re: Newbie fighting (video)
As of right now throws can only be done off an active block (just hold the key after you've got the timing on the block to throw them). Which sort of answers the second question: blocking and throwing is an excellent tactic against single opponents who go offensive since it floors them and prevents ...

Re: New moves secretly introduced?
You can counter-attack to beat an attack yourself if you know the timings on the attacks, it just gets impractical since you've got to be able to predict the attack the AI performs and if they do a standing middle kick you can't beat it in speed or reach unless you managed to close distance within t...

Re: Suggestions for combat AI
I mentioned some similar points in another thread (which appears to have died) - but just to add to the topic since I agree with the general direction of the OP: I think my biggest desire is to at least get them to spread out whilst running at you. It just seems kind of silly seeing a big crowd of e...

Re: Weapon Combat Suggestion
I would like to see stances in game, but for them to work they really need to just be used as a visual representation of how your character is going to react to the current inputs. I'm curious how they plan to make the passive versus active block mechanics work in the future, because while it's fine...

Re: Combat spacing/Measure
As for the original post, I can definitely see the devs working on this once the engine is tweaked just the way they want it. Hopefully yes, but it's not a trivial thing to just throw in at a later stage so I wanted to highlight it now. While the tactical/stealthy side of Lugaru (and by extension I...

Combat spacing/Measure
I realise that there is no awareness of the group as such in the current AI behaviour, but I think there are two things that are fairly important to make fighting groups both more interesting, and more realistically challenging without the current "overrunning". As things stand, characters...
