This is the easiest way to do it that I can think of:

1. Load one of the existing arenas
2. Start the editor with F1
3. Save it out as your own level

Now you can use this arena as a base for your own.

Found the cause. Steam gave me a different key that worked than Humble Bundle. Weird.
