Physics broken

I decided to play me a little Lugaru again today and the game is just having a physics all over itself. Two things I noticed: 1) Any dropped weapon will just skitter around like a mad thing instead of coming to rest. Functionally this means the only weapons you can use are ones you start with or tha...

Re: Beat down

They get knocked down when you hit them with the knife. Pull it out before they get back up again. :)

Re: Beat down

Neat trick for kills with the knife: instead of trying to do the ground stab, knock the enemy down, then throw the knife at them while they're getting up. With luck you'll hit them (otherwise, retrieve the knife and start over). Now (asuming that didn't kill them straight off) while they're on the g...

Re: What am I supposed to do?

First, I'm amused at the term "life guards". Those are the people who stand around poolside (or seaside) and make certain you don't drown. Most of the wolves in Lugaru don't have life preservers. :) Anyway, you should have a sword for this. Get it ready and hold the mouse down when a wolf ...

Re: Most Epic Lugaru Moments

Honestly I think my favorite parts of Lugaru aren't when amazingly unlikely things happen, though those are quite fun. My favorite parts are the ones that emphasize how brutal and short the fights are. Like how you can win the quarterstaff duel in the basic campaign in about 2 seconds (disarm -> kno...

Re: Fusillade beta test!

If it weren't hard, surviving wouldn't be much of an accomplishment, would it? :) I've targetted the average game length for a skilled player at four to five minutes. Do note though that only the red dot on your ship is vulnerable. Everything else is impervious. The help page goes over basically eve...

Fusillade beta test!

Hey guys! I know I've not been around much lately -- I see the OG devs have getting a lot done, though. I've been getting things done myself. Specifically, I've been working on my own videogame: Fusillade! Fusillade's much simpler than Overgrowth, of course, and it's rather short on homicidal rabbit...

You can always do a high jump and then intentionally mis-time a flip. Do that enough and you'll fall over dead. :D

Re: Inventory System In OG

How would you holster a staff, though? Any possible way I can think of to attach it to your body would cause unacceptable interference in your mobility. The things are simply too long.

Re: Inventory System In OG

On the one hand, I like the strategy in weapon equipping in Lugaru, but on the other hand, it did sometimes interfere with the flow of combat. And rightfully so, but it might be more fun if swapping weapons was faster (e.g. if you could "holster" a bo staff). I definitely think that the RP...

Re: What features do you want to see?

That's actually a standard feature to add to games, not so much to deal with tiling, but for performance reasons. There's no point in having a 1024x1024 texture (that is, a detailed texture) for something that's only taking up a 50x50 pixel patch of actual screen real estate. You only need a 64x64 t...

Re: What mod would you make?

Skofo's objections are pretty clearly ideological ones -- to get his input, I suspect you'd need to make OG a free, open-source game, which is pretty clearly counter to the idea of having an independent game company unless you like the idea of trying to survive off of donations. Playing mods separat...

Re: A New Campaign!

Hm. My playstyle relies heavily on stealth, or where that's not possible, picking enemies off one after another. In the case of Snow Fields Night, which IIRC is the one where you have about two seconds to kill each enemy before the next shows up, I ended up saying "Bugger this for a lark",...

Surely you aren't suggesting pirating software on a software company's forums?

Because that would be really, mindbogglingly idiotic.

Re: A New Campaign!

Heh. Thanks for the detailed guide, Thrain. I have to wonder what you think is harder, though! (Granted, I did accidentally beat the Throne Room level by flinging everyone, including myself, into open space. Apparently if you're the last to die from impact you still get to clear the level) I hadn't ...
