Re: Student Game Developers Community

Getting better. It still looks a bit like a blog, but I'm not sure how exactly you're planning on going about running the site, so it may be fine if the blog's a central part. Yeah, they've been doing updates lately, so maybe try tomorrow or talk to John on the meebo widget on the contact page.

Re: Overgrowth Tools - What can be done?

Have you considered Flash?

It's extremely easy to pick up, and you can create pretty complex games. If you can find a student to buy it, it's only 250 on Academic Superstore.

It's really where I started my game design experiences.

Re: Do we need moderators?

It's amazing what you can find with a little websleuthing. For instance, you were the lead singer in a band of five of your friends back in 2006. I could probably find more, as just finding that fact instantly gave me 3 or 4 more information leads. But really, you can't find anything on me, I'm almo...

Re: Visual Basic

Grr... basic .. must .. resist .. flaming..... Anyways, I don't support Basic. Mainly because it really isn't applicable for accomplishing a serious project, compared to a much more moldable language such as Java (it can be done, but it's not necessarily the best way). Also, syntax and the like don'...

Re: Student Game Developers Community

If I had to guess a reason for it looking a little unprofessional would be that the design is that of a blog. While many community sites, or more "professional sites" take up the entire screen, most blogs use the "pill" look with a rounded box centered in the screen. References: ...

Re: Opengl hardware tesselation

If I had to take a guess on how it works, I would guess that the tessellation takes in a very high resolution mesh, and then creates 1-5 different levels of detail by breaking it down. It doesn't need to create any details procedurally because it can just bring up higher and higher quality meshes as...

Re: Do we need moderators?

Anyway, from my experience it's important for moderators to have different colored names. It's something everyone recognizes as meaning 'I am a moderator", and that's important if people are going to actually listen to said moderator. I see moderators as less of "needing to be listened to...

Re: B-b-b-ban me!

If you lay out a fair set of rules (ordering from most important to least important) ... and make no special exceptions for anyone , then it will be fine. Its not like they have room to argue, the use of forums is a priviledge, and to keep the priviledge they have to follow the rules for the forum....
