Re: The crash-thread!
If the program runs into a problem while trying to load a .obj file, it will silently crash. Or sometimes it'll pop up an empty dialogue box that you can't clear because your mouse can't interact with it. Looks like a memory problem from the crash logs, which would explain the irregular behavior. Yo...

Re: Alpha progress, bugs and discussion.
Maya should have some capability for creating a UV texture that is the normal map. In Blender, you'd hit control-alt-b (after some setup nicely described here ) and tell it to output normals, for example. Note that OG will refuse to import models that don't have texture coordinates for every face. I...

Re: procedural animations from lugaru 2
Unfortunately, I don't think you're going to get what you want here. It sounds to me like you're after a Spore-like mechanism for creatures to automatically figure out how they should move. From what I've inferred from statements by the Wolfire devs, though, they don't have anything like that. In th...

Re: Lugaru clans?
Clans only really make sense in team-based competitive multiplayer. We don't know what kind of multiplayer Overgrowth will have yet, hence we don't know if clans would even be useful. Personally I suspect that OG will mostly be about campaign co-op and free-for-all melees. I will grant, though, that...

I don't know much about Vista, but I've heard of other apps having problems with it because it tries to force programs to save their config, etc. in Program Files instead of wherever they normally put it (generally in the same directory as the executable itself). This is part of trying to prevent pr...

Re: Overgrowth Interview Includes Fan's Questions On Gameplay!!!
My guess is that dogs are not quite as physically powerful as wolves, but are smarter. At the very least we have an image of a dog with a staff and what looks like armor, and we know from Lugaru that wolves won't use weapons unless they grab them from you in a reversal, and never wear armor (not tha...

Re: Please Breif us On what Must be done In Public beta/Alpha
One thing to keep in mind: the more detailed your bug report, the more useful it is. Saying "I was fighting some rabbits and it crashed" isn't very helpful. But "I had a sword and was fighting two rabbits, and when I took a swing at one they both tried to reverse me and then it crashe...

Re: Unusual things to do
Now this was interesting. You know the Throne Room level in Temple, right? Totally impossible in Insane mode, near as I can tell. Just trying to survive (with no offense in mind), I jumped in at the enemies from the side, did a flip to confuse 'em, and then landed and tried to do a leg cannon at one...

Re: System requirements for Overgrowth?
It's a cross-platform game, which means either the developers are totally insane, or they aren't using DirectX at all in Windows. So no need for Vista.

Re: Secret Preorder Forum!
To clarify, I meant "anonymous" in the sense of "you don't know who the other guy is", not as in "he doesn't have a name". For example, if I log onto a UT server, I won't recognize any of the names there (and they won't recognize me) despite us all having nicknames. Pas...

Re: overgrowth, mods, ideas, art, ANYTHING!
I actually really liked how nearly-impossible fights were once you had several enemies ganging up on you. Lugaru is the only game I've ever played where I've felt hand-to-hand combat was even vaguely realistic in that sense. If you're going to attack one guy, you're going to leave yourself open to a...

Re: What features do you want to see?
I think I've managed to sell Jeff on programmatically-generated levels, so if he can convince the rest of the devs, then things just got thrown wide open for all sorts of "endless"-type challenges. They wouldn't be continuous (that is, there'd be stages with loading screens in-between), be...

Re: Secret Preorder Forum!
I don't think it'd really make sense to be competitive against anonymous opponents with debug mode on. It'd be more useful for experimenting, playing around, and the like. Cooperative level-building, for example. Or trying to race to see who can set everything on fire fastest.

Re: What features do you want to see?
I believe the point about framerates was that his friend could either have a variable framerate that was always higher than 30FPS, or a fixed framerate of 30FPS, where what he wanted was, say, a fixed framerate of 45FPS.

Re: Lotus Wolf's Weapon Shop
<pedant> The weapon as drawn there has the blades facing the wrong way. As it stands the spike is nearly impossible to use and you'd only ever hit with the flat of the blade (unless you tried to stab, but tonfa really aren't designed for that motion). Remember that you hold the short segment in your...
