13 months later: are there still alternatives?

I've just been looking at the new Deus Ex game and hoping it doesn't turn out to be a terrible disappointment. This makes me think: how are things shaping up for alternatives to killing in Overgrowth? Remember this ? http://cdn.wolfire.com/blog/a/ruiner.jpg That was 13 months ago to the day. Now, I'...

Re: Overgrowth on linux

Wine isn't really a solution. I've never had much luck with it truth be told, with anything

It's an alpha - no guarantee it will work. Consider yourself lucky that you use Windows: for Linux there has never been a playable build, and there probably won't until the game is released

Re: FIXES: Humble Bundle on Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit

Bad idea: some applications can't do without pulseaudio, for example Skype. That's not true (and never was). Skype just doesn't display other options as long as it detects presence of PulseAudio. I run Ubuntu with ALSA and I had to configure some things but now it works. Here are instructions to ma...

Re: FIXES: Humble Bundle on Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit

Are you running the binary from the gish directory? If the working directory isn't correct then the program won't be able to locate resources correctly.

It's still down there at the bottom: Linux was about a quarter of total revenue, more than Mac, and a higher price per purchase than either of the others.

Re: Overgrowth on linux

Linux users will in most cases settle only for open source software and games. Most game developers do not want to release source code for fear of clones of their games being made and this is bad for the mostly non-existent market for linux games. I think this is probably correct, and as we saw wit...

Re: Overgrowth on linux

I can't speak for Linux users because I'm a piss-poor student and I pretty whose only outgoings are food and rent (I haven't bought any new clothes in 2 years). But I did buy OG, and I wouldn't have done so if there wasn't a Linux version promised. That's got to count for something surely...

If by "fix" you mean "drown your sorrows" then yes, wine is a good idea :P But I have little faith in it as a way of playing games :?

Yeah, I know. Just makes me sad every week when David says "the Alpha is available for everybody who pre-ordered" and... well, it isn't :(

Re: Overgrowth on linux

As I've said before, I'm totally chill about the schedules and things, while Overgrowth is in alpha. If we get to beta or RCs with no sign of a penguin flavoured Overgrowth, then I'll start to squawk* about it. * see what I did there? "Alpha" and "Beta" are just names without an...

That Awesomium guy seems to suck at setting deadlines... 'I'll have more news for you in the coming week.' - Awesomium guy, one month ago. I think at this point everyone has given up on Awesomium :| Berkelium or something similar seems to be the way to go. I just wanted to add that Wine is not a so...

The beard belongs to nobody. It bows to no greater power. It suffers no master.

YOU belong to the beard

Re: The Trouble with Randomised Loot Drops

Frankly I'd rather have everything chosen by the level-designer - Lugaru's levels were like puzzles, where you had to think about what guards had what and where. Things work better if such set-ups are hand-crafted. But it may be necessary to automate things a little what with the lack of man-hours a...

Also the first time I've used an actual sheath rather than my hand: you do NOT want to get into the habit of sheathing a ken in your hand. Old habits die hard
It's the small things you take for granted, like putting a sword away without cutting all your fingers off in the process :?
