I saved someone's life and now they hate me

I'm not going into details, but I saved someones life by stopping them from committing suicide. I asked if they were ok, and they responded with;

You fucked me over!
I'm in a fucking mental hospital
Because of you

This is the worst thing anyone has ever done

How do I deal with this.. Everyone says i did the right thing, but her.

It's probably best if you don't give a shit about anything she says about the incident until she's stable. Because it can get pretty ugly.

Be a good friend, that's all she can ask for.

Wow, a real hero! I'm actually somewhat serious with this. I've never saved anyone's life. You have. Even if you thought it was something simple that anyone might do, it was you who did it.

You shouldn't feel bad because she's getting help. If she had known she needed help, she could have tried to get it herself, couldn't she?

In case you haven't considered it yet, you might want to see a psychiatrist. Going through all that must be stressful, and you should ask for help if it gets tough. They might also be able to explain why she's acting like that, being experts and all.

Just give her some time. Leave her alone for a few months, then call and see if she's doing better. If not, call back again in another few months. If she is better, she'll probably not be hating you so much.

Also, take into consideration that she is in a mental hospital, as she said. Personally, I don't think it's too wise to listen to anything most people in there would say. I admire how you took this upon yourself instead of thinking she was just being bitchy about it. I would have been more like "Oh, really? So sorry for saving your life. Here's an axe =D" but that's just me

The only way in which she is "mentally disturbed" is that she wants to take her own life. That's why they put her there.

I would like to thank everyone for their kind responses. I just don't really know what to think of all this. I have gotten multiple responses from a lot of people, and most say I should just sit it out and wait and see what happens.

I hope she responds quickly to the help she is getting and will eventually thank you for saving her life herself. At the very least know that you made the right choice to help her.

I never go to a place where I wanted to kill myself, but have suffered from a form of depression since I was a young child and only just started getting treatment. I can honestly say that things really do change, even if it might take your friend some time before they do. And that, although likely apprehensive at first, I would be happy now if I had a friend who had helped me get what I needed sooner.

Sucks to hear that dude =( This is basically what happened to me. My best friend (who also happens to be my ex gf) was suicidal, and I talked her into checking herself in. She told me it was horrible, and that she hated me for forcing her into it. Once she got out, she forgave me though, so hopefully your friend will too. Best of luck!

I didn't think people were put into mental hospitals just for attempting suicide :S Wanting to commit suicide sometime in your life doesn't mean you're mental, they should just have someone keep an eye on them.
Unless of course she actually has a mental problem.
