Cliff Jumping!

Post by leDoOd » Tue Aug 21, 2007 6:18 pm

Got any stories to share if you're a jumper?

My first time was at this place in my town, Ithaca, called Second Dam... a 20 footer at 10 at night, without my glasses. Scared me half to death but man what an adrenaline surge! :P No chance of getting hurt though - it's an artificial lake about 50 feet deep.

The second time we went to another place near Cornell University called Beebe Lake, and I jumped off of a 30 footer as well as a 50 foot. The latter was amazing fun and has convinced me that someday I have to go skydiving! :D Again it was safe jumping because the river was at least 20 feet deep, none of us ever touched the bottom.

Anyone else ever gone cliff jumping?

Only in Mexico, where it's an extreme sport- you have to be careful to not let the wind suck you up against the cliff and rip you up, or make you hit some rocks- look for the clearest pool of water around and make sure to jump as far as you can. I've also been skydiving, it's quite fun but imagine sticking your head out of a car window when it's going 150 miles an hour, a human's terminal velocity- the feeling you get like you can't breath is horrible, but once the adrenaline kicks in it's a pure thrill ride :)

It's also known as the Ithaca Reservoir - I couldn't give directions to it cause I only really know landmarks but I know exactly where to go to get there. :P

It gets me all hyped up (As you can imagine) which makes me want to stop playing for a while.

I jumped of a ledge at rainbow pools, a place by Yosemite, I think it was about 25 feet or so... Not too high but I hadn't even jumped off the high dive before that, so it was cool.

I don't get adrenaline from playing games.

Oddly enough, I get adrenaline sometimes while still dreaming. Then I normally wake up with a-
"WHOOO!!"
..

Yeah. My life is weird.

More off-topic:
I found an extreme sport that is practically suicide, you strap yourself to the floor, then attach a cord to your back, while still strapped up, then a crane comes along, the other end of the cord is attached to the crane, it lifts up so the cord is stretched.. Then, the straps let go of the floor....

You're launched into the air at incredible speeds, and then you are supposed to open your parachute while coming back down.

Back to free-falling/diving/whatever else you guys are doing.

This one time, I went up to second dam, and there were a bunch of college students there cliff jumping. Oh wait, that was today.
