Sorry, can't agree there. What people think is true and what is actually true are very different. These days, most people in the Western world have access to similar basic education, so it seems like most people agree with what you're told is true. Outside of the sphere of influence of the Western education, people have been taught things differently and think about things differently.

As an example, your example of Yeats is irrelevant to me. It'd be so for most of the people. That doesn't mean that Yeats was irrelevant, just that most people are ignorant of him.

I could agree that it's likely there's some basis for any given commonly known thing, but I'd not go as far as saying it's even "very likely".

*casts thread resurrection*

I thought it might make for an interesting exercise to look back on my "first impressions" post now that I've finished the game.

Well... I stand by most of what I said. However, The Witcher 2 only got worse the longer it went for. By the end I was begging for it to finish.

- The story went from "slightly above average" to "convoluted clusterfuck". The second act involved two of the most clumsy plot twists I have ever seen. At least half of the third act consists of expository dialogue. The ending was painfully inconclusive and basically amounted to sequel bait.

- One of the characters actually turned out to be good. (For those of you who played it, I'm referring to Iorveth. I thought he well characterized as utterly world-weary to the point of bitterness.)

- While the environments in the prologue and Act 1 are lovely, Acts 2 and 3 consist of little more than but grey-brown stone.

- The game has a habit of disabling quicksave and features some utterly retarded checkpoint placement.

- The combat remains good throughout. Although evenually I just got tired of it. Crafted a crapload of fire bombs and marched invincibly through the game, burning all in my path. So the balance is a bit off.

So... did anyone else here play it? I would be interested in hearing some other opinions.
