A question

Post by Jacktheawesome » Mon Aug 08, 2011 2:23 am

Sorry to sound like a n00b, but what is the small gray writing below some people's profile pictures (invertin's is "Sticky," rudel_ic's is "Official Wolfire Heckler," Ren's is "Gramps," etc.)? I could never figure out what those came from.

Those are titles.
I recall that on some other forums you get them when your post count is high enough, but afaik they can only be given by the admins here.

and often those who ask for them are given titles that they don't want.

Ah. Yeah I was just wondering, because when I first came here I remember trying to edit mine, and not being able to find the field for it. Then I noticed only a few people had them. That makes sense.

Personal experience Roland?

Hahaha no, there was quite a big discussion a few years back and I tried the same thing you did until I read it.

Surely not personal experience since you can't see one on his name.

Jeff was the one who assigned them all. They were mainly tongue-in-cheek. I recall someone being my Junior or something. I was assigned Gramps on account of me having once upon a time been a dilligent troll.

If I remember correctly, BunnyWithStick had Gramps, Jr. as his title.

He still does.

You can find a lot of people with titles that registered very early on the forum. Also people that has been very active through the years, like Andrew and BunnyWithStick.

Well, I assumed he had been given a nasty one, asked Jeff to remove it, and Jeff had relented. I don't know.
Man, seeing those lists made me wonder where all the old posters went. Some of them were before my time, but glabbit, tokage, Ozymandias, etc, all sort of disappeared. Ozy made me laugh too. :(

Ahh, just out of interest went to check what page I came on...page 7 of 305, one of the first 350 people on the forums. Aww yeah, I was on Wolfire before it was cool. =P[/hipster]

Also interesting to note is that there is...just over 15,000 users registered on the Wolfire forums. I know a lot of those are bots and some can be multiple accounts, but still!

Also of interest to me and Grayswandir is that we registered within the same week. High five, Ben!

I feel so young ;__; WHY COULDN'T I HAVE JOINED IN 2005

That said, it's probably a good thing that I was not present on this forum as a 9 year old. I think R_T would have probably permanently traumatized me.

Also, looking through that old list of people made me remember certain threads and brought me to this one:

Thread about hating altruism

Seeing David's post, it's funny to see how the forums have eased up over time.
