You guys know you can name your profile to what you want, right?
You never have to give out your account name, people can't find you within Steam with it anyway. You should mention your profile name, though. Because that's what the search function finds.

Your profile name does not need to be unique, either. You can name it whatever you like.

Community -> Edit My Profile, name it what you want to.

Since it does not need to be unique from everyone else's, that should never be a problem, and your account name does not matter at all, since it is never shown to the public and will never be used as a "personal alias". It might become a problem if your profile name is the same as 10 other people's though.

Yeah I was wondering why when I was playing online it was using my email address...must be a default username. I'll switch when I can. And then I'll be Jacktheawesome.

Yeah, if you haven't already set your Steam Profile Name, it will use your Email by default. Which isn't the best pick either, I'd rather have it use my account name than my Email.
