Electric Picnic

Post by Renegade_Turner » Tue Sep 06, 2011 12:39 pm

This was something I posted on Facebook for the benefit of my friends documenting my time and in parts their time at Electric Picnic music festival which went on from Friday morning until Monday morning...thought you guys might find one or two bits amusing...I'll have pictures later...

Highlights of Electric Picnic weekend 2011:

- Some of the best bits being the ones you didn't hear about beforehand, couldn't possibly have seen coming or just didn't expect much from.

- All the weather forecasts predicting torrential rain.
- All the weather forecasts being completely wrong.

- Leaving your ticket in Waterford.
- Realising this five minutes before you're supposed to leave Dun Laoghaire (wouldn't have realised until later if it wasn't for Melissa!)
- Realising when you get there that you didn't need it.

- Forgetting your friends' tent (Melissa and Adam) and leaving it in Waterford.
- Apologising profusely to your friend's mother (Veronica) when she has to drive up to Carlow to give the tent to us.

- Seeing the Civil Wars before Electric Picnic and realising when you get home that they were the best thing you saw all weekend.

- Waking up earlier than all your friends on Saturday and Sunday.
- Starting to drink and smoke at 8 a.m. out of boredom.
- Feeling a bit pathetic because you think you'd enjoy a lifetime of doing this.

- Being one of the first four people to climb up on top of the dodgy wooden circle area in the Body And Soul area.
- Feeling a bit bad when you jump down and other people get in trouble for being up there.
- Almost having a heart attack when a friend tries to get down by stepping on a nearby tree branch and it breaks.
- Not having a heart attack because he somehow manages not to fall despite being as pissed as you are.

- "Is it Licky Lee or Like Lee?"

- The constant cross-campsite search party for "Alan!" and "Steve!"

- Your friend (Claudette) finding a missing phone almost buried beneath a tree.
- Starting the search through previous missed calls and text messages with another friend (Oisín) so that you can get the person back their phone.
- Realising after some text message investigation that the owner's name is "Neill".
- Eventually contacting Neill, finding him, and returning his phone.
- Being treated like a king for five minutes, with cocktails being bought for you and your friends (Oisín and Judith) at the Bacardi stage, and cigarettes being proffered towards you.

- Running into a scumbag from Limerick wearing an Italia 90 jacket and trackies tucked into socks while walking back to the campsite with friends and assuming you're about to be robbed.
- Realising after a few minutes he's one of the soundest people you've met at the festival.

- Seeing a friend's band at Electric Picnic (Torann) and ripping your shirt off the second you get there.
- Having to put your shirt back on at the next gig (And So I Watch You From Afar) because you're too sweaty and don't want to inconvenience anyone.

- Listening to Chemical Brothers all the way down to Stradbally from Dublin.
- Falling asleep an hour before they play their set.

- Friends loading you up with gin because you drank all your cans (Tom Powell).

- Meeting up with your cousin (Andrew Sheehan) and him slipping you a 20 without taking no for an answer because you're broke as fuck and too proud to ask anyone.

- Realising all your friends are missing or gone to bed.

- Constantly hanging out with people you don't know on the last night.

- Having that one person you keep bumping into in the most random places (Paddy Freeman).

- Meeting the two nicest randomers ever in the form of two Birmingham girls.
- Hanging out with them for your last 3 hours of enjoying Electric Picnic.
- Finding a marquee tent to dance in until 7 o' clock in the morning.

- Going through two boxes of fags between 11PM Sunday night and 7AM Monday Morning.
- Having a screechy voice the next day because of that.
- Being so drunk and happy that you're offering cigarettes to strangers who haven't even asked for one.

- Coming back to your tent and realising it's pretty much upside-down.
- The relief when you see your car keys are thankfully still there.
- Realising the next day that your friends are the ones who did it (I'm looking at you Tom Powell!).
- Getting two dodgy uncomfortable hours of sleep before driving your friends to Dun Laoghaire.

- Not understanding how to put your pop-up tent away.
- Throwing said tent to friends like a frisbee.
- You and two friends running around with said tent over you like some blind directionless battering ram.
- Inevitably getting pushed over while in said tent.

- Realising while you're leaving that you weren't robbed at the whole festival.
- Remembering that friends were, unfortunately, robbed, and mentally reminding yourself not to jinx it because you still haven't left the carpark yet.

At 1:25 you can quite clearly see two naked guys jumping around at the front...I'm the guy on the left and Adam Murphy is the guy on the right...some job!
