I believe we did that once, and once again after that aswell. The problem is that we can hardly afford a dedicated server, and that the people who host it personally can't always have their server running.

I don't know if this is still up, but you can find the Official Overgrowth Weekly Minecraft Server in this thread with the same name.

If you'd like, I could host a new map on the server I use for private (and for my friends') use. Either that or you could just build whatever you'd like in the world we currently have. No one plays anymore so I don't think they would care too much about it.

The OG server doesn't even work anymore. I think Autious kind of just left it.

I find this a pity. I was just considering picking Minecraft up again meself, but it's less fun in single-player.

We should definitely start a new one. Half the people here seem to be on non-stop so someone could run a server alright probably :P

And I agree single-player by comparison is so boring compared to SMP.

I could probably host a server without problems.
I would do so too, if the demand was high enough.

... and if Bukkit wasn't as unstable. Often the official Minecraft Server application is good enough, but people tend to have this urge to pimp up their Minecraft with an indefinite amount of addons.

Edit: I just tried the updated Minecraft Server out, and they have even allowed the maximum block height to be changed in the config-file. I changed it to 1024 without any problems. The land is generated as before, but now allows taller structures to be made. Castles and such on the tallest mountain tops is now a possibility. Sweet.

What???? I thought the new max was 256? That's so cool.

Ah, it seems as if I was mistaken. You are correct, 256 is the new maximum height.
You can type what you want in the Config though, but the limit stays at 256.

This is still possible however.

Indeed. After the update I made a throwaway world to mess around in, and it's a pretty significant difference. Although I was also surprised at how tall it really isn't, when compared to the world's tallest buildings.

Especially considering its 4,096,000,000 square blocks along the xy planes.

Since the in-game block-size should represent one meter, 192m (256 - 64 which is at water level) is not much to brag with when compared to few of the tallest buildings in the world which are easily over 600 meters.. But indeed, the new cap both looks and feels very high.

Yes, 1 block=1 meter. And yes, it does do a very good job of making you feel very high up. Especially because visibility in Minecraft, even on Far, isn't close to our range of vision. I need to run Minecraft on Short most of the time, so from my point of view there could literally be an entire city out of my view, directly above me. It creates a lot of possibilities.

I wish it was possible to render as far as the eye could see... and not have your computer die a slow death...

And I'm not a fan of weird mods and add-ons personally, there's plenty to do in pretty much vanilla MC IMO. The occasional slight change is quite cool though like recently I've been watching the Mindcrack "Ultra Hardcore" PvP series which is awesome.

Other than that just having multiple players is enough to set up interesting scenarios of your own!

Agreed. The last server we had was strictly mod free. I'm involved with a server right now that actually has three worlds: one loaded with addons (it's sort of a mix between creative and survival), one creative, and one strictly survival. Everyone's happy.

Well, I'm not.
I'm not happy because I'm not on a server with you guys.
