Ugandans don't understand western sarcasm.

(but yea, this whole campaign wasn't as well thought out as that one guy would let you believe. I almost guarantee now that there will be a few votes written in for Kony. )

Why am I not surprised that it went down this way. While I don't see any support for Kony coming from this, I do see Ugandans opposing any US help now. I did notice that they were commercializing it, though. My first response to the products was "Fuck that shit, I'm enlisted."

Yeah. I mean, to be honest, about five minutes into that video I already kind of hated the narrator. He just seemed so manipulative and narcissistic. About half of the video focused on his son Gavin. Whatever message he was trying to send with that, his son's perfect first-world life has nothing to do with Ugandans.
In fact, not much of a lot of this seems to have to do with Ugandans. Joseph Kony was at large in Uganda around 10 years ago. Now, he's moved on to other countries. It's pretty safe in Uganda. They're just starting to rebuild their lives. So why was this made now? Some might say that they just want to bring attention to the issue, and that can't be a bad thing. True, but if this was really about bringing truth to people, they would have, instead of talking about Uganda, talked about the other countries that he's now believed to be operating from. Or, they might have talked about how the Ugandan government that they would supposedly collaborate with, which is in many ways just as bad as Kony. They might have mentioned that Kony just happens to be the most famous member of a large group of African warlords and corrupt politicians that have terrorized various Africans for centuries. By making him alone famous, they're putting the weight of all of Africa's problems on his shoulders alone. Killing/imprisoning him will accomplish nothing, least of all for Ugandans.
Anyways, he does say that this is an experiment in how the upper echelons of the US power pyramid would react to massive pressure by the people on one issue. And I guess in that respect it served a purpose. Some teenage girls got to feel better about themselves by sharing the video on Facebook. I guess the Ugandans should be honored to have their "invisible" lives be a part of our great experiment.

Anyways, my friend and I were joking today about airdropping thousands of Kony 2012 wristbands over Uganda to see how they react. I think it would be hilarious.

Honestly, I wonder if they have some kind of "do-it-yourself" option where you can just print out flyers or posters instead of handing them your money. :/
