It'd be cool if we all had a real life *shudders* meet up and had to guess who each other was over the day. Yeah, I'm in. An external IRC would work well. Or we could do maybe a third party Hamachi network.
Or Runescape.
Or RS2006 when they hit Open Alpha (I vote for this one, after it comes out. An IRC until then.)

I believe so too. I also liked what Adwuga said about coming up with a date that this event would start. That way, I can focus on my exams at the time and we could start with this once everything has cooled down on my front. April 1st would work, if it could not be taken for a huge practical joke. April 2nd is also a Monday, that's much better.

If no one else objects to this, I could go ahead and arrange the whole thing. If so, I will probably make a thread about this in the future once I have made some arrangements.

My posts are based on my opinions and moods at the moment. I don't put on a mask to maintain some novelty account. There are days when I'm serious and days when I'm joking. The one thing that remains fairly constant is that the things I post are as unfiltered as my thoughts will ever be. Infact, the only reason I post on forums is to express opinions or tell jokes I wouldn't normally make in society. I put a lot of time and effort trying to express my moods or thoughts as clear as I can even though I'm not nearly as skilled with words as others are. I always thought that people who read my posts would understand who I actually am better than some of my closest friends.

However, for people to turn around and say "you blend in with the crowd" is somewhat a direct insult to your personality considering the lengths someone has gone to not wear any personality masks.

That ... stings a lot more than a simple "you're ugly".

... and now I'm apparently a drama queen.

On second thought, Maybe I'm taking this the wrong way. Maybe I should take comfort in knowing that I do blend in. The fact that I blend in means that in general everyone else thinks similarly to me and I'm not alone with my opinions and other people out there (the majority in fact) think and act similarly.

Huh. Well perhaps that's your defining characteristic: just being a normal, real guy.

I don't know. I think I act here pretty much the same way I act in real life. But in many ways I kind of agree with what you said: that people on the internet know me better than people I know face to face. It's kind of liberating to talk on the internet. I think I mostly come here anyways just because I don't necessarily have like...hordes of friends...that I talk to...outside of school.
So I come talk with you guys!

In my experience you're not missing much. Unless you find a friend who has the exact same interests as you do, you tend to act a bit differently around different friends. For example, at work I will act semi professional, not curse, act fairly mature. However around college friends, I'll curse, drink, and raise general mischief.

Different friends for different sides of your personality as well as different interests. I don't think I've ever had a single friend I've shared even half my interests with.

I've had very few serious conversations with friends and those conversations usually only happen after something very serious has happened or some extremely selfless kindness has been committed.

I agree. All of my friends are small bits of me. I had one friend who was like a 70% clone, and we talked about everything(I acted like I do on these forums, but even worse/better(however you think of me)), but he was in the grade above me, and now we go to different schools.
We were so retarded together. We only met in band class, and we singlehandedly(well, I guess doublehandedly) destroyed a concert without getting caught(by singing the notes instead of playing, causing bad sounds and laughter among other kids). Our band teacher said it was the worst concert he had ever seen. It is my greatest achievement to this day. And fate(me being held back in Pre-K because of my birthday) has kept us apart.

That's when I started posting here a lot.

I want to comment on both of these ... but I don't know how I can smoothly share my thoughts on the matter without being rude. Know that with this post I do not wish to offend anyone.

... I have lots of people that I can genuinely call "Friends". Three of which I can really call true friends, those people that I'd say is like a real brother. People that would let you live with them if you have trouble at home. People you would die to protect.

Besides them, we are about 15 people that all share the same interest. We often hang out with each other, hosting barbecue parties, LAN-events, MTG (Magic: The Gathering) nights or Role Playing games. We are that genuine, large group of friends that always stand up for each other. I love every single one of them dearly.


Even so, I still hang around here. It's not because I feel lonely or that I feel the need to connect with some people different from what my true friends are like. You guys are a good source for thoughts, ideas and entertainment. You are my secret group of contacts with which I exchange those things, my clansmen of devoted internet lurkers.

Protip: the whole thing is totally unknown in some countries.

The "Kony 2012" thing is something that a lot of other countries will never, ever see. It's way too "American" to work with them (Let's just take the name you all use, "Kony 2012" ... It's an election thing related thing, and there is a lot of people who don't vote in their own countries already - why would they care about the elections in the US? Kony 2012 means absolutely nothing for them, and even if they see that written somewhere or something, they probably won't even search or try to understand it)

I personally heard about it on the radio, once, 2 years ago, and that's all. And all the people I meet IRL just don't know about it. (I always explain them of course)

Now, I'm taking the example of my own country - I'm a bit of an exception, because here, almost nobody speaks English. And when they do, they generally don't speak English properly. However, we had Internet for years already (and even before that, our own networks for a particular machine called the minitel, back in 80s) and we pretty much have a huge and complete Internet community ... Exclusively French. Normally, a French person doesn't need to know English to browse the internet: we have tons of sites about everything, and every major site like youtube, facebook, etc, is translated.

But that kind of stuff never reaches our networks. We generally stick to French things ...

Still, I try to make it a bit more popular, but there is no way that "Kony 2012" becomes popular in the rest of the world if no real effort is done about it.

Yeah, I pretty much get on here because you guys crack me up on a daily basis. I have that close circle of friends too, but I agree with the different friends for each interest. I've got a friend who does 3D modelling, an artsy friend, a programmer or two, a bunch of musician friends (I <3 Jazz Band), and some friends who I met when I signed up with the Marines. That sort of group where you can hang out with them and have fun because you share an interest.

Yeah. Close circles of friends are awesome. My problem is I just moved schools and cities for 9th grade. I was with one group of people in one class in a small school for 8 years, and by the end I really knew those people. Now the problem is I just don't know the people I'm with very well, well enough to really trust them. Oh well. That will change.

Hahaha yeah, I went from a small school for eighth grade to another small school for ninth grade, with no related people in it. fortunately my natural charm (see dickishness) made me many friends.

My old school was insanely small. The high school had about 50 students, and the rest of the kindergarten-8th grade was probably about 200. Current school is just a high school, and it has about 350.

Also are we doing the mystery IRC on April 2nd? Did we decide to do that?

I have entirely different habits when chatting than posting.
