I liked the second song up to the point where the vocalist opened his mouth. He sounds really whiny to me for some reason.

Yeah, Streetlight Manifesto are one of the first ska/ska punk bands I started listening to, probably the first. Love them. Most of their best material is off Everything Goes Numb, though.
