I actually bet that would work. It's a light hearted enough that she can laugh afterward without being caught up in awkwardness, but it still has some power behind it that suggests "I like you".

Something like that can be playfully thrown out there and be used to set a flirtatious/playful mood.

However, If I ever complement a girl on her beauty, I definitely take some time to think of just how to phrase it so it will really sink in and make them a bit flustered.
