That sounds fairly roundabout when you can also just set voice_scale to 0 in-game.
It's better than setting voice_enable to 0 because you can still talk to *them*, which is handy in competitive when you have critical intel to share.

And yes, always use a separate voice chat with friends. The in-game voice chat quality is atrocious.
I use Teamspeak myself.

The other reason I do this is because the Steam chat settings sometimes take over other voice chat programs (depends on the game, Dawn of War II for example) and you'll hear yourself twice, once through Steam and once through your voice communications program of choice.

I actually find that hilarious now that I think about it. You have them muted entirely, but you can still shout shit at them over the mic and you don't have to hear a response.

I've never had this happen, but I think I did hear someone mention it a long while ago. Does this occur even when your steam mic settings are set to 'push-to-talk'?

Yes, I find this amusing as well. I try not to set the scaling to 0 until after I've determined my teammates are highly unlikely to be at all helpful, though. I must try not to become what I despise! I made a little toggle bind for it so doing so won't slow me down. Of course, any game mode other than competitive is an insta-mute most of the time.

Personally I just go through the process of clicking on the screenshot repeatedly until I reach the window where it just shows the screenshot and none of the border rubbish and paste the link to that page between image tabs.
There's probably a more 'intended' way to do it though.
