Interesting. I've wondered about a few of the things he names myself after watching the movie, yet now I realize there's a lot more to it.

Personally, I had myself completely convinced that the ending was real, based on the fact that I was sure I saw the top about to topple. I'd been completely, utterly misdirected.

I figured the top was about to topple, given the fact that it already wobbled a bit (which, in the real world, is a indication it's about to topple, and we never saw it wobble in the dream world; "it would always spin" perfectly.

Given that , I never spend much time thinking about it; I interpreted it as a rather cheap attempt at adding a cliffhanger.

Why didn't I care? It wouldn't make that much of a difference if the entire movie was a dream. In the highest level we've seen in the movie (regardless whether that's the real world or a dream) Cobb is being chased by law enforcement (possibly projections) for the "murder" of his wife, which made it impossible for him to see his children. At the end of the movie; Satio works his magic and Cobb is finally able to return and see his children. So, regardless of whether this is real life or a dream, he's happy. Either way, he is able to live on without law enforcement trying to lock him up. Maybe only for ten years (or whenever the dream is over), maybe until his actual death (which may or may not be within ten years). The events of the movie significantly improved his live (or dream). So, either way I was happy with the ending.

I agree; the changed perception doesn't really change the cathartic sense of the ending. I thought pretty much exactly what you did. However, the knowledge of all that was in there that went completely over my head really impresses me with the depth - something that already impressed me.

I agree too, which is why what the guy is saying about how we can't know if we are dreaming or not doesn't matter. What is life, the universe, and everything to me but the way my brain perceives it, be it "real" or not.

And that's why it was better than some ol' shitty king's speech.

basically the only thing I grasped during the movies was that the director was trying to make us wonder if we we're dreaming.

I did noticed the semi-abrupt scene changes the first time I watched it and I kinda thought that its kinda dreamlike in a way, but I didn't connect the idea that the whole movie was a dream to that. Which is kinda disappointing :/

I always found that scene where Cobb is calling his wife in very sketchy.
It makes no sense, at all.

Guys... I think I've got it...

I have given this several days of thought and I actually went into the movie frame-by-frame and its soundtrack bit-by-bit to collect enough clues to prove this theory... and it all comes down to this...

Oddly just as predictable as Inception... (Actually... your interpretation is even better than the video above, and much funnier ;) )

But now seriously: I'm really surprised and annoyed by this guy, and his general disdain for the movie making community, as if they are some kind of retarded monkey baby...
When I screened the movie, it was at a pre-release screening AT the Academy for Motion Pictures, with a HUGE turn out of Academy voters, with a Q&A with the heads of each department (i.e. Director, Composer, DP, Costumes, Production Design, Editors, etc) and we talked about each and every thing this guys thinks is so awesome. So for him to think that members of the academy, people who have devoted their lives to the art and craft of filmmaking, missed all of the subtext he found so interesting, he is really a dumb person.

His argument for "Best Picture" sounds like a professor at a college in the middle of nowhere, trying to make a "cool" point about something so in depth. In other words, mental masturbation. However, "The King's Speech" was a fairly accurate recreation of one of the most inspiring speeches given, during one of the most crucial moments of the 20th century. Seriously, he thinks that his mental masturbation is so "cool" because a composer slowed down music, and used that? Like Saint-Saens didn't do that 100 years ago in Carnival of the Animals.
Also, have you ever watched Inception twice? It's AWFUL the second time, because then you have to sit through 1.5 hours of watching someone setup an overly complex idea. It's bad filmmaking. If people didn't get all the stuff he talked about during their first viewing, they aren't watching it critically or attentively, and he is really insulting them by saying they didn't get it...

Without it, there wouldn't be a movie... ;)

But that doesn't mean it "deserved best picture".
