Fuck This Jam

Post by Macrauchenia » Sun Nov 11, 2012 11:23 pm

So I'm sure you've all read the Blog post this week about the game jam that David and Aubrey are working on. So far, their game looks spectacular. I've posted their progress so far in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16919

The last game jam they worked on was the 7DFPS jam, which resulted in Receiver. So I have high hopes that this game will be just as good as Receiver.

However, during the 7DFPS, there were plenty of great games that were made that seemingly noone played. I'm creating this thread to hopefully shine some light on the other entries for the Fuck This Jam....jam, as I'm sure there will be just as many awesome entries as there were during the 7DFPS.

Fuck This Jam's twitter has real-time updates from each developer, check it out here if you're interested:

During the week I'll post different games that pique my personal interest, and at the end of the week I'll play as many of the finished games as I can and write a short review for each.

Here's James Wilko 's entry so far, a space simulator.

This one I'm going to particularly keep my eye on, as the space simulator genre is one that I don't particularly care for. There are a dozen of them on Steam, and none seem worthwhile. Hopefully this game does something a lot different than those.

Here's Travis Chen's (possibly others(?) entry so far, "Dear Esteban".

This game is obviously a parody of "Dear Esther", a game which I've never played, but heard plenty of criticisms about. Along with this picture he wrote "Walking will never be the same".

Looking forward to seeing how it turns out, the game looks beautiful so far.

Here's jonbro's finished entry, Dungeon Janitor.

Playable here:

Looks like this is the first finished submission to the Fuck This Jam competition. With only 2-3 days of work put into it, there isn't much of a game here at all. There also doesn't seem to be much divergence from the normal generated dungeon grind game, it's almost an annoying parody of them. Moving around is frustrating, and experience is gained REALLY slow. The music is pretty cool though, extremely eery.

Ha! That's hilarious. Nice satisfying "pop" noise, lol.

I haven't played many games like this (can't even put my finger on the genre), but I would imagine it certainly points out what's wrong/annoying with most of them; Win for only a nominal fee!

Here's Riot's entry so far, a "first person golf-em-up" game.

Image

I've always like the mechanic of any golfing game I've played, really I can't think of a bad one. So I'll be interested to see what exactly he does different with this one.

Here's Polarlighthouse's entry so far, Kiwi Soccer.

So far there is no gameplay for this entry, but doesn't Kiwi Soccer sound amazing?
