Apparently Windows 8.1 may bring back the start button as an option. If so, my faith will be restored, implying you can choose in settings or while you're installing it.
Apparently it's just going to take you to the Start Screen.

The Start Screen's still awesome though. 8)

nah i like the list form because it keeps the desktop area clutter free.

and that little list is an easy, neat way to keep them organized.

Also, anyone heard of Classic Shell?

Custom start button of my cat(and the eyes glow when I mouse over), more customizable start menu than any version of windows(you can even use old start menu styles if you want), no hotcorners, boot to desktop, and shift+winkey brings up the startscreen, which is very useful as a second desktop to store my less often used shit.
Basically, makes Windows 8 like Windows 7, except better in every way. Even though even without Classic Shell, Windows 8 is better in every way.

My only Windows 8 complaint is that they removed the previous versions thing, which caused me to lose some important files(which in hindsight, I was better off losing), but I just re-enabled it. And yeah, they should have had most of the classic shell options by default, but it really isn't very difficult to get.

I used Classic Shell for a few months but only because the Start Screen had some issues for a while and I couldn't be bothered to uninstall CS even after I didn't need it :P

It's useful but I don't really use that many programs anyway so the Start Screen suffices.
The Start Screen is terrible if you have an abundance of programs though tbh. Scrolling horizontally is certainly not the perfect manner in which to get through a ton of programs. I just hope Windows 8.1 improves on this aspect somehow :/
