Sudden surge of spam
So I've noticed a huge surge of spam + russian posts + russian spam suddenly. Any idea where it's coming from and why? I just disapproved probably 10 posts at once.
Re: Sudden surge of spam
probably someone trying to pirate something and it asks you to spam a link to a list of sites. And so that is most likely what they are doing.
Re: Sudden surge of spam
Preorderers got the power to disapprove posts because this sort of thing was happening. It will quiet down at some point, and we'll return back to our spam-free existence.
If you think this is bad, imagine how much spam everyone else is removing ( = about as much as you, most probably), and imagine it all being normal posts on page 1 of the forum, and a moderator needs to remove them by hand. Yeah....

On one of the russian ones I copy-pasted the link into my browser just to see what it would do (I find my system's security pretty trustworthy). It refused to load, and a couple minutes later my antivirus yelled at me. So yeah, can confirm, do not click those. :Pakazi wrote:Just clicked on one and it was a virus.

Re: Sudden surge of spam
Don't ever click links, until this stops at least
Re: Sudden surge of spam
Clicking the links they post is no problem if you know what you're doing (using proper precautions and possessing the know-how of fixing your computer if all goes wrong).
It's quite typical. I've seen these waves of spammers come and go on various of my own forums, and if I recall correctly it has happened here before. Just keep disapproving them and it'll go away eventually.

If it's a good idea, go ahead and do it. It is much easier to apologize than it is to get permission.

The proper precautions for stuff like this is not to click it, flag and ignore.BlackHole wrote:Clicking the links they post is no problem if you know what you're doing (using proper precautions and possessing the know-how of fixing your computer if all goes wrong).
