3D Modeling

Post by David » Wed Mar 07, 2007 9:07 am

I have finished the Freeverse programming project, finally! I am now working on the soft-body fracture physics renderer with Alec Rivers, and on a game design project for class. I am taking this class as an artist because I am much more confident in my programming and design abilities than in my artwork, and would like to try and rebalance my skill set.

Here is some of what I have so far:

It is a bit too red; I was using a gradient map to try and simulate subsurface scattering of light through the skin. It worked well for the hands and face, but looks weird on his neck.

Here is with his neck redness reduced:

Also testing out keyframe animation:

Nice artworks.

You mean the one that you showed to the guys at Eurographics 2006? Have you been in Europe back then, by the way?

No, I believe Alec Rivers just sent them a zipped demo.

Very nice work, David! More proof that David = God.

I didn't say anything about christianity, you know. Perhaps Zeus and Hades, but Jeff isn't exactly anything like Hades.

Yeah, Jeff's probably somewhere along the lines of Jesus.

Jesus' evil twin? The Antechrist?

Apart from that, wow. The textures look really good. :)

(If anything: the man's skin goes from really yellow in light to really red in shadow, and his fall doesn't look very realistic--esp. his legs, which remain completely stiff. Is there a reason for that?)

I thought the man's fall looked incredibly realistic, well, except for the fact he fell the wrong way. A shot like that would probably be enough to send him falling backwards IMO.

The models were built and rendered using Blender.

I love Blender. It just might be the best freeware program ever.
