Planning on buying an Xbox 360

As the title would suggest I'm saving to buy a Xbox 360, and I'm planning on buying from either Craigs List or eBay for pretty cheap. eBay seems more likely though, so I was wondering if any of you have nuggets of wisdom about buying expensive electronics on eBay. I figure I'll be okay as long as I only buy from people who are rated well, which means checking to see if all the positive comments weren't posted by five or six guys over and over again.

Buying those things on ebay gives you no warranty and a damaged/scratched electionic item. If you want a 360, get a premium, core isn't worth it. Premium has 200$ worth of extras for only 100$, so get that instead of core. I suggest not trying ebay, but instead something like a price search or buy.com or overstock.com. The best thing to do is buy it from an official store, because then you get the best console possible with warranty, and some stores offer discounts or free things if you buy a 360.

Rumor has it that the 360 will have a price drop soon.

I'd get a PS3 instead, although it's also a waste of money in my opinion.

Buying an XBox 360 is extremely frustrating as I bought mine and it stopped working completely shortly thereafter. It always was extremely buggy, now it doesn't work at all.
I am sending it away, free of charges, for a free fix-up, but that still does not change the fact that I am verily pissed off right about now.
XBox 360's are notorious for not working properly.

In my opinion, if the PS3 had been out at the time I was buying, I would have bought it instead, because even though it took a while for it to come out, it's probably better and definitely won't be fucking up as much as the XBox 360 does. Microsoft can kiss my ass.

So I've been playing Final Fantasy XII instead.

Glad I can safely and Honestly agree.
MicroSucks Programs have been like that since Windows 95 I reckon.
If I had to use another IBM/Windows computer I would be Using Windows 3.1

That system I found back in the day Actually worked

There is a rumor that a new hdd 120gb xbox360 is coming out, although i highly doubt it. You could buy a ps3 instead, but since the great games aren't coming out until this summer, you might want to buy it a little later [possibly after a much needed price drop]. I got a ps3, and I'm still waiting for a game to catch my attention.

See, why I want an Xbox 360 is because it has the games coming out on it that I like/want, examples are Mass Effect, Fable 2 and, this will sound really retarded and fan boyish but Halo 3

P.S. If people turn this into a 'rip on Microsoft' thread I am asking the admins to delete it. I say this because I see it heading in that direction.

Sorry, I didn't expect the discussion to turn into a flamewar. I just posted what came into my silly head. A lot of people actually prefer the 360 for a number of good reasons.

What's fanboyish about drooling over Halo 3? As far as I know, Halo 2 was pretty good and Bungie does professional work.

By the way, is there any ingame footage of Halo 3 on the market yet?

Personally, I thought Halo 2 was a giant failure. They took everything that made the original fun and changed it. Dual-wielding was not the god-like feature that everyone thought it would be. But that's just my opinion.

At this point, I'd buy a 360 just for Mass Effect. That game looks ridiculous.

Mass Effect is coming out for PC too. Also, halo 3 has some in-game footage in an exclusive video "making of". I found it at Gamespot

gametrailers has a little "First Gameplay! Brute Documentary" thing.

It's mainly just the interview, but you can skip ahead to the end and see some in-game footage they have of someone playing it. It pretty much looks exactly like halo 2 at this point though, even the melee animations and shotgun models are the same.

Cellphones!

I wouldn't call Halo 2 a huge failure for that duel wielding thing, but it definitely lost some points for replacing the assault rifle with some duel wielding Uzi's. That was dumb move.
