Re: randomness
Probably gonna get one of them.
Also, I just looked at the best sellers list, and my wishlist/cart, and just noticed:
Most, if not all, of the games are on sale for around 40-50% off.
Best sellers being:
Flight Sim: 80%
Speed Runners: 75%
State of Decay: 75%
Injustice: 75%
Euro Truck Simulator: 85%
Damned: 75%
And a few others around the same range.
HOWEVER
From my wishlist (Or what I care to show) shows the games that didn't sell as many copies and you'll see a strange trend:
Evil Genius: 50%
Rainbow Six: Lockdown: 40%
Dawn of War 2: 50%
Rock of Ages: 80%
AI War: Fleet Command: 70%
Don't Starve: 40%
Invisible Inc: 20%
Notice anything?
That's a small sample, most of the games are around 40%, or less. A few outliers here and there, but mostly around the 40s.
Wonder why.

Re: randomness
Speaking of games, may I ask some suggestion in the couch coop category?
Specifically without need for controller: 2 players playing on the same keyboard.
Any good ones?

The big sale percentage seems to help a lot, but it's not enough on its own, I guess.Phoenixwarrior141 wrote:Best sellers being:

I noticed Evil Genius on your list. Have you tried Dungeon Keeper 1 or 2? They're old, but they stand up relatively well if you can stand the graphics, and for the price, enjoying the jokes even for just a few levels is enough to get your money's worth back.
If not, at least listen to the mission intros and outros:

I haven't gotten it (Never got around to purchasing it), but I fell madly in love with it from a few random let's plays.
Evil Genius is like that, but modern.

Re: randomness
Are the ones on big sales also selling DLCs? I've noticed that being done a lot. Crusader Kings 2 is a particularly ridiculous example. Having an 80% sale on the base game PLUS DLCs might get people buying both, instead of just the game, in which case the total they pay might be higher than the cost of just the game without the sale.Phoenixwarrior141 wrote:I haven't gotten it (Never got around to purchasing it), but I fell madly in love with it from a few random let's plays.

Re: randomness
Seems like it. A few exceptions being Damned and maybe Euro Truck.
The ones on sale though seem like they might be selling DLCs, while the ones not on sale are in the 40%s without the DLC.

Re: randomness
I played Space Hulk Ascension again.
And this summarizes what I've learned.
Step 1: Beware the Alien
Step 2: Beware the Mutant
Step 3: Beware the Heretic.
Step 4: Cleanse the Alien
Step 5: Purge the Mutant
Step 6: Burn the Heretic.
Step 7: Don't fail your rolls.
Unfortunately, for this mission at least. Our battle bruthas took 1 and 4 into account but not 7.
*Bewares the alien*
Noctis proceeded to kill that alien, but fail miserably killing the one after it. Missing and dying, leading to two squadmates getting butchered.
Beware the Alien indeed.

Re: randomness
Whenever I see something light-hearted I need to cover it with something grimdark, or else the universe will implode.
Ignoring that and moving swiftly onward...
My friend and I had an interesting discussion about two things today/night and those were:
1: Doom style graphics (Sprites) on 3D models:
This was a weird discussion, because from an outside perspective you probably have no idea what I'm talking about. If anyone played Strife or Doom, we were discussion how a game using the sprites like in those games on a 3D character. Similar to Project Zomboid's 3D models which look very sprite-like but are 3D.
It was a somewhat short discussion, but interesting nonetheless.
Next is something expected but interesting
2: A Hatred style game, but with a story and interesting protagonist:
The idea (That I pitched) was a game called "Death by Cop", had I not told you what the game would be you'd assume it'd be a weird platformer. The game would be a top-down shooter where the protagonist is suicidal (Coming out a deep depression of some form), so he decides to go out and kill people, and fight against the cops until he dies, to go out in glory and be known for something.
He puts faith in the police, who he hopes will kill him, and the player.
This part is not told to the player however, the player isn't told that he and the protagonist are two different entities. Which is why the protagonist says things and does random things outside the player's control.
If the player kills all the police (Who won't attack first), then there will be a short comic of the protagonist walking off into the next city, looking depressed and beaten.

Re: randomness
The method Doom used, called billboarding, is pretty common, even today. It's often used for GUI interfaces that are in 3d, ala the UI from Dead Space.
The little munny and other little ball pickups in Kingdom Hearts were also billboards.
It's also a rather straightforward technique, but requires a lot of labor in animating a character in every direction he can walk, instead of just the walking animation and rotating a mesh. It's also next to impossible to do in-depth character or weapon customization, if that's something that is within the scope of a game, like my hiatus-tastic project.

Re: randomness
One thing I planned to do was take a sprite's texture (Say a civilian from POSTAL) and put it onto a model made to look like the sprite, and as a result look a very sprite-ish.
Or, again, similar to what Project Zomboid did. Which is some weird Cyber-heresy beyond me.

Re: randomness
What do you mean a model made to look like the sprite?
Re: randomness
Spritesheets can be rendered out of a 3d model, like in Bastion. It can be automated so that when you render the animation, 4 or 8 cameras each render out one side.Korban3 wrote:What do you mean a model made to look like the sprite?
