... what the hell did I just watch? O_o

Assaultman67 wrote:I'm not really opposed to exploring beyond that "happy ending" structure, but there is a reason why that structure has come out on top over time and that's is in my opinion because people generally enjoy it more.

I don't blame them. I tend to enjoy happy endings too, but every now and need something different, a touching story that leaves one just craving for more.

Assaultman67 wrote:I simply get the feeling that when people see kinda tragic stories like this they think to themselves "oooh this is unique therefore it must be good!". Or maybe I'm the crazy one ... I don't know anymore. I mean, I don't hate the series, i just don't generally enjoy sad endings as much as happy ones.

I can accept that, as long as you don't have a grudge towards it, that's fine. Image

Assaultman67 wrote:TLDR This series was good, but really depressing, so why do we call it good? Are we happier after hearing the story? Should any story that invokes strong emotions of any nature be considered good? Could I make an extremely sad story about dying puppies and would it be considered good?

In some sense, yeah. Image Perhaps it would make people think of the defenseless animals and decides to adopt some to take care of. Speculations, speculations.

Assaultman67 wrote:... Say if Togame got killed roughly 2 or 3 episodes earlier there would still be enough to catch people off guard, but also allow enough time for Shichika time to heal over his loss ...

That would actually make more sense. Now that I think of it, the last episode could've been stretched as an entire story of its own. Think God of War.

Assaultman67 wrote:That was the other issue I had with the series. I don't really believe he ever learns the value of life as much as I would like in the series and that is an important part of your humanity in my opinion. Being able to recognize the value of life to the degree we do is what I believe separates us from other animals.

Was that the "moral story" that they wanted to teach us?
I didn't quite interpret it that way. O_o

I think it was sad that they slayed all chances of a continued story by saying that Shichika was "Never heard of again" in the last episode.

Assaultman67 wrote:Heh, I'm not sure if it was subtle genius rearranging the order in which the text appeared or just coincidence. If its by some chance subtle genius I tip my hat to you. :P
Some of both, it was both to get you to really read through to what I was responding, and I sort of answered two of your paragraphs with one response so I stuck them together. The first one last because it seemed more relevant.
Assaultman67 wrote:I never read manga, although I probably should, there are alot of anime series, that were axed prematurely but are still being produced in manga.
Just one thing, the Kizumonogatari is nothing but a novel as of now.
I've read several mangas which anime show has been cut off, Berserk being the biggest of them. It's really sad, because Berserk were incredibly interesting.

on an unrelated note, doesn't this game site's logo kinda remind you of the wolfire logo?

I don't really have a grudge toward it or people who really enjoyed it ... I guess I just have trouble understanding it.

Honestly I'm just pretty psyched that I got to have a fairly intelligent conversation about anime. Generally the conversations I see about anime tend to involve who is whom's waifu or something else on that level. I'm completely intellectually starved when it comes to anime conversations.

Yea, i kinda know that the anime wont be out for a while ... I guess I misinterpreted the novel part and thought you meant manga.

Berserk (the anime) had the shittiest ending (not even due to the theories stated before but mainly because it was so rushed.) ... It was definitely one of those that made me consider reading the manga after I watched it due to the shear unsatisfactory nature the ending for the anime was. Along with Gantz, Air Gear, Rideback, etc.

You have to get out more.
And was the coloring really necessary? Image

Yeah, same for me.
The anime was completely cut off in probably the most exciting part...

The US dub outtakes make the DVD boxset worth it.

I'm sure. Such a cut off story has to be compensated in some way.
