Strategy game suggestions.

I've run out of GOOD, worth a damn strategy games (Mount and Blade Warband is NOT what I want as awesome as it is) and I need some suggestions for more:
- Anything like the new Total War games without actually being a new Total War game, Shogun isn't my type (Don't like the time period, I'd prefer Rome II if it wasn't crap)
- Direct Control portions or mechanics are okay so long as they aren't shit.
- It actually has to involve strategy to some degree, "Send in all the units to win" is not strategy despite the fact that it is my only strategy.
- Single Player preferably.
- MOBAs are a NO.
- It does not have to be particularly serious.
- The A.I. should be an actual challenge.
- Steam or GoG.
Any Recommendations?

I just picked up Transistor, the fighting is pretty strategic and versatile.

I didn't really like it, not a huge fan of Turn Based games anyway.

Oh, I remember that game. There are freeware demos for that and Multiwinia out there somewhere.

The only thing that interested me were Rome II and Empire...
