spam

Post by Sargon » Thu Apr 03, 2008 6:13 am

How is it that I get spam into my private message box here at the lugaru forums?
(I decided to delete the bunny video, because ironically it would make my post also sort of a spam)

It does that, yeah. Unfortunately for spam but fortunately for privacy, mods can't inspect your inbox for spam, so you'll just have to handle it like email spam.

As for how… The same way any other spam gets to you. For posting globally on the boards, spambots or hired goons. For PM spam, spambots or hired goons. For email spam, spambots or hired goons. Yeah…

So the registration security code you need to enter doesn't prevent bots from registering?
I think if you make a custom security code, then it would protect better.
Like, if you need to look for the answer inside a paragraph on this website about lugaru.

I've seen very little spam now. I think these spammers are doing it manually, so there's no way to block them.

How big of a deal is it? I've only gotten one before. It doesn't seem that bad.

Hence the "Hired Goons". I think they just pay people to go in, register a name, and post some spam. Or maybe something else resulting in people going in, registering names, and posting some spam.
