Does anyone know a good free video editing software?

Post by Sehiro » Wed Jul 29, 2015 5:21 am

The title pretty much says it.

For windows, with the following features:
- Add text (also in multiple text-boxes at once)
- Overwrite audio with an external file (any audio format it accepts is ok)
- Speed up video of a percentage, or stop it for a still frame
- Cut, paste, and have transitions (this is less required)
- able to save in mp4
- free

I already worked with windows movie maker, but it can't have multiple textboxes. Was wondering if there are better alternatives you guys would recommend.

Blender is a video editor.

... Yeah, I know, it feels super weird, but it can actually do all that. The interface is a bit weird, since it is 1) based on the UI of a 3D modeling application and 2) it's based on Blender, which is atypical even for a 3D modeling application.

The problem is that it can't do all that EASILY. So I only recommend it if you either already use Blender, or want to learn to use it any way. Here's an example of all the hoops and loops you'll have to jump through to get a simple text effect working. I've used Blender for years and even I was totally flabbergasted by some of the stuff he had to do to get that working.

Thinking of blender as a video editor does feel super weird xD

I'll give a look at it, even if probably it may be better to stick with wmm just for the UI.
But who knows? Maybe blender'll be the right software
