End of the world

Post by TheShadowInside » Tue Sep 09, 2008 12:58 pm

Right well, for those of you who havent watched the news, a big mechine has been built under France that can fire particles at each other at nearly the speed of light so they can answer a few long lost questions or somthing, to my understanding anyway

well, aparently theres a tiny chance that that giant thing under France is going to create a black hole and suck us up...

:D

..like tomorrow *que panic*
they are starting it up at 2am so ive heard sooo i have... hours to go before they start it, and i think it goes off at 10 or somthing like that... i dont realy care when, kinda looking forwards to it actually.
or maybe if we are lucky just a small zombie apocolypse...

well i would just like to take this oppertunity, before we all die, to say, i hate you all :D
and ill see you all in hell.

thank you.

and if we arnt blown up, we could use this topic for ideas on what the best way to end the world is.
...Sephiroph... definatly...

yeah it's probably not going to end but I like the feeling that it might feels kind of like when someone holds a knife up to your forehead.

Why do you like that feeling????
I really don't see the point in why we're doing this. So what if it answers some questions, if there's any chance that we all get killed because of it, it isn't worth it.

I say "zombie apocolyse". Sounds better than an apocalypse.

I think the world is doomed even if none of those happen.
Global warming, gas prices going up, and a warmonger leading in the polls (no offense to republicans). By the way, the fired up the reactor, did nothing really.

actually i heard its started up now but its not actually happened yet,

Me and my friend have come to the very perfessional conculsion that if their isnt a black hole then obviously there is only one other option.

Zombie apocolypse!

so ive already set work on my zombie plan, we only have a few hours left!!
yeah it's probably not going to end but I like the feeling that it might feels kind of like when someone holds a knife up to your forehead.
i guess i know what you mean, but i dont realy like the idea of a knife to my forehead, i just dont mind the idea of dying. and even if we arnt its fun to pretend.

Its a particle accelerator/collider. Its not a black hole creator. In theory it could create micro-black holes, if they exist at all.

I thought all the choices were pretty awful, so I chose ZOMBIE APOCOLYSE simply because of the awful misspelling.

I'm by no means a physicist at the caliber that people are making arguments for the black hole possibility, but wouldn't it take a larger mass to produce one. The smallest theoretical black holes (according to Stephen Hawkings and Wikipedia) are about the mass of the moon. So that is 1.2% the mass of the earth. That means that for a black hole to form 1.2% of the earth mass has to be shoved into a volume (according to the prior sources) of about 1 cubic milliliter. They aren't colliding nearly that much mass in this device (1.2% the mass of the earth is a lot of stuff). So in order for the black hole to form the stuff being collided (which has a very inconsequential mass) needs to create a strong enough gravitational field to pull 1.2% of the earth's mass into the 1 cubic milliliter area it exists in. This seems completely illogical given the not too limited knowledge I have of gravitational properties.

Maybe I am wrong, but this black hole concern seems ridiculous.

I find it hilarious there's actually people worried about black holes forming when black holes are theoretical things which no one has ever seen.

It's a silly rumour that was created by people who know little to nothing about the LHC experiment. My mother is a physics teacher. When I explained to her there were people who actually BELIEVED that a black hole could form as a result of this experiment, she laughed and asked me who came up with such a ridiculous notion.

Never listen to rumours or hearsay, they are always riddled with lies.
