atheism is not a religion

This is a moot point, not a fact.

It is a topic of much discussion that few can agree on.

I think it can be considered a religion. It depends on the definition of "religon" and the definition of "atheism". I think that "religions" include any set of beliefs regarding the spiritual, divine or supernatural aspects of life. "Atheism" can be the affirmative belief that there is no god or the rejection of conventional theism. Therefore it is a belief which primarily concerns the spiritual aspects of life, therefore it is a religious belief, just like agosticism or Judaism or Buddhism.
