Re: Bob's Game
Two opinions.
a) This is a classic example of why you don't want to get locked into a proprietary platform. His business model relies completely on Nintendo. He claims to have spent 15,000 hours on this Nintendo DS game and Nintendo doesn't want to publish it. That sucks, but that's a risk you take when you are completely reliant on proprietary stuff.
b) It sucks when people don't get back to you. I empathize. We have the same problem and, yeah, the answer is to do exactly what this guy is doing: Make a ton of noise. Albeit, we do it a little more tactfully: http://blog.wolfire.com/2009/01/indie-f ... tributors/
We don't explicitly call them out, but the fact is that the longer Greenhouse and other distributors show up as red on our list (especially next to their competitors who are yellow or green) the worse it makes them look. If you read the comments, it has already gotten the attention of at least one distributor and Overgrowth is going to be on their system now.
On the other hand, the Bob's Game guy seems to have way more traffic and buzz than we do, to the point where he is actually starting topics on our own forums. Maybe he is doing it right after all and we can learn a few things from him.

Re: Bob's Game
i just wanted an opinion b/c of his 100 day tensei sitdown that's causing a lot of commotion
xD
and yeah, while it is getting publicity, it still isn't trafficking a whole lot of GOOD publicity. not to mention there are a lot of people that still doubt the game's existence. one of which is an indie programmer i talked to earlier today who also said that if it exists, it shouldn't ever be released b/c it looked too much like a time-warp back to the 80's or something. pretty harsh opinion, imo.
also, while his business model may rely heavily on Nintendo, he's *apparently* got iPhone and G1 Android ports in the making, which being the kind of systems they are, should hold him over, if not have him set, for another project...granted he even wants to do another project

Re: Bob's Game
Can someone check the site and see if something happens? I left it for like 10 minutes and it's still that annoying green loading circle. =P
He said there was to be big news yesterday. I haven't seen anything.

Yeah, that too...
Re: Bob's Game
Poor Bob. He spent a freakin year working on a game, and Nintendo wouldn't make it.
What a loser

5 years. But yeah, I've got to admit, for the sob story it is, he should've seen it coming. However, it is a lot more interesting than hearing "O-BA-MA, O-BA-MA" being shouted in the background of just about every newscast.Starrz wrote:Poor Bob.
