C++, recommended texts.

Post by Dark3r » Thu Jan 15, 2009 8:19 am

Recently inspired (by Wolfires appearance on ModDBs developer banter) I have begun to dabble in programming again. I'd say that I'm fairly well versed in Pascal (school software class) and have ventured into doing some actionscript while I was a flash fanatic. I've decided to have a crack at C++.

Just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for any primer texts? The two main texts I've been considering have been:

+ Stephen Pratas C++ Primer Plus (5th Edition)
&
+ C++ Primer (4th Edition) by Stanley B. Lippman, Josée Lajoie, and Barbara E. Moo

I've also had a little look at books recommended by the guys at nehe.gamedev. since I'm more oriented towards programming for games and the prospect of using OpenGL.
Remember I can't spend much money on both or more books since I'm a poor highschool student without a job. :(
Thanks for any forthcoming help ;)

lol, wasnt really looking into a complete beginners guide such as the "for dummies" books, but rather a refresher. i forgot to mention that ive had some experience in C and to my understanding C++ is just an extension of C (hence the ++ increment suffix)

anyway not to worry, ive already got a text and all is going smoothly :D
