Well, S.S.B.B. sucks as far as balance goes, but I haven't played metroid prime, so I don't know.

No, it's more balanced than people usually think:
Most people will be better with some characters than with others. This may be from playing style, or because that character is so easy to begin with. (This is usually the case. noobs choose a char, find one they can begin playing with easily, and then stick with it. Then, once they've reached a better skill level, they've done so only with that character, and thus suck at the rest.)

Myself, I can fight okay with basically everyone, except Snake and Sonic.
Of course, I'm better with some than with others, but I'm no master veteran general major guy, so that's fine.

Truly, once you get to the point where everyone you're fighting against is of the same (and high) skill level, everything balances out quite nicely.

Apart from the final smashes. Their balance sucks.

I disagree. Look at Metaknight for example. all his moves come out fast, have quick recovery, and have amazingly high priority.

Lets put that up against an equal skilled sonic.

Sonic's attacks come out fast enough, but have major lag time at the end, and nearly all of his moves have lower priority that metaknight's.

basically: speed + priority = win.

Check http://www.smashboards.com/ to get the full low-down. But really, I used to play competitive brawl as sonic, and I'd loose, nearly every time, no matter how skilled I was. I switched to MK (which I hardly ever play) and suddenly stand a chance.

Okay then, maybe sonic just sucks...

*shrug*

I dunno.

Somehow I convinced myself nintendo would've balanced everything out.

Metaknight's recovery time isn't all that fantastic, though. When playing MK I very often see my opponents (who, I must admit, are not really competent adversaries) either miss, ignore, or simply don't notice the openings I leave after my attacks...

What are you talking about? Lair sucked imo. Great concept, terrible controls.
Assassin's Creed played like a tech demo. All the missions were the same.

Lol @ Blorx completely and foolishly missing Ragdollmaster's satire.
