Plenty of horrible older games. Invertin, you wouldn't have been playing games at the time when these older games came out, so you probably only have found them through the internet or emulation or whatever, and generally would only hear about the amazing games. How often do you hear people raving on about the WORST games they used to play? It's generally people going on about the BEST games they used to play.
There was an equal amount of good and bad games, in my opinion. People generally just never got a chance to play the really shitty ones. Who would want to make a ROM or an ISO or anything like that for a shitty game?

Apparantly one site on the internet has a rom of every GBA game ever made.
They may be lying, but there are a heck of alot of roms there.
Uh. Not that I'd know or anything. >.>
But older consoles lasted quite a while longer, and had quite a few more games, so you're probably right.
Early games must have been more exciting at least, back when we had to be creative instead of ripping off whatever for the nth time. (Not that all new games are like that, but quite alot are.)
