Re: I seek attention
Brett Dennen, that takes me back 4 or 5 years to when I was a big singer-songwriter-head. I like him because he's very nice.
On the topic of acoustic singing and songwriting, City And Colour ftw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btjhdHX8pMo
I also like Blessthefall. My favourite song is Take Me Now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hfs5uD5uWSk
Btw A Day To Remember cover win: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8hhUAYYSVw

Re: I seek attention
Dude, City and Colour is great. I like that song and Waiting.
My fav by Blessthefall so far is either Wait for Tomorrow or Higinia. It's a tie, haha.
And hell yes, epic cover win. Along with Silverstein's version of Apologize. Talk about rewriting a song

Re: I seek attention
The band I'm in played a show with Watch Out! There's Ghosts. They're pretty cool, not sure how much I enjoyed their live show but I'm not really into that kind of music. Also, Karate Highschool was going to play as well but they dropped at the last second.Blorx wrote:Breathe Carolina fans, look up:

Re: I seek attention
I'm big into Mayday Parade, especially "When I Get Home, You're So Dead" because that is one of the best pop-rock songs I've ever heard.
*** Mayday Parade - When I Get Home, You're So Dead: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcYakSym-0A
Saosin are also good, although I personally preferred Anthony Green as the vocalist. "Seven Weeks" is by far their best song in my opinion. The whole Translating The Name EP was pretty much genius.
*** Saosin - Seven Years: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3n0Zi_LDA6I
I also like a good bit of Circa Survive, Anthony Green's current band, and also a good bit of his solo work. He's been in too many projects to name.
*** Circa Survive - The Difference Between Medicine And Poison Is In The Dose: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOZlAunMb8o
*** Anthony Green - Dear Child (I've Been Dying To Reach You): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTuT73CwAyM
*** The Sound Of Animals Fighting - Act I: Chasing Suns: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7dl1EJ5XmE (Oh my god watch Anthony in this performance from around 1:52, he's so mesmerising.)
Oh and Alex Rodriguez is really a f'ing beast on the drums. Seriously, he's one of the best modern drummers, but he gets so little credit playing for a band like Saosin.
*** Saosin - Translating The Name (Live DVD Version): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9HbfQcIjjk (Another Saosin video but this time a live one to display how awesome Alex is)
Punk drummers generally don't get much publicity...progressive rock and progressive metal drummers get loads of publicity, e.g. Neil Peart of Rush and Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater. In fairness, though, they are both amazingly talented and probably the best musicians in their respective bands.
*** Rush - YYZ (Live): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKBLSkN2sRk (This is possibly my favourite live video of all time. I'm not sure whether it's for Neil Peart's ridiculous drum solo found at 3:21, Geddy Lee's mini solo-bass riffs found at 1:44 + 1:58 + 2:11, Alex Lifeson's stupid grin that he has on him the whole time, how much fun they look like they're having while performing or Geddy and Alex's cheeky demeanours on-stage...check out what Alex does at 2:13 to know what I'm talking about. Anyway, it's f'ing amazing)
*** Dream Theater - Honor Thy Father: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQkF8LUoyVE (Okay, seriously, Mike Portnoy fucking rocks. I really mean that swear word. He fucking rocks. He's such an amazing drummer. I'm not even a drummer and he captivates me. Don't think I just think it's about power either, that's not all Mike Portnoy has. He has technique, rhythm AND power. "Honor Thy Father" is possibly the greatest drumming song I've ever heard.)
Cove Reber is still a pretty awesome vocalist even if I don't like him as much as Anthony Green. He features in a song by another band I think are amazingly awesome called Yesterday's Rising. I can't begin to explain how underrated Yesterday's Rising are, they don't have half the following they should have. Their vocalist Brandon Bolmer is awesome.
*** Yesterday's Rising (Featuring Cove Reber) - Sidewalk's Remnants (Live Warped Tour): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4uXTNkGApg
*** Yesterday's Rising - Let's Take Slow Steps (Live Warped Tour 2004): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9Fn-d-MQlE
Here's another post-hardcore band I just found today. They are truly awesome and deserve some more recognition than they have. Sure, they have two EP's out and have a reasonable amount of MySpace plays but, as I have written on my Bebo, "Holding Onto Hope, a breath of fresh air amid the sea of generic monotony that post-hardcore is becoming."
*** Holding Onto Hope - Bridges: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_82GMBmbRw4
*** Mayday Parade - When I Get Home, You're So Dead: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcYakSym-0A

Re: I seek attention
Anthony Green - Circa Survive ftw.
Craig Owens - Choidos ...not so much lol.
A friend of mine made me listen to Blood on the Dance Floor and their song Miss Bipolar, while a bit sexual, is pretty catchy and a bit funny if you think about it. So are the rest of their songs, imo.
Miss Bipolar - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oWJV971Ch0
TSoAF is pretty beast. Their music is so bizarre but it tends to work out. Not to mention, with the exception of Anthony Green, their lineup changes every 3 seconds lmao.
Another really good band is Dawn Over Zero. Their song Circulation has a pretty epic guitar line throughout it.
Circulation - *damnit, Youtube doesn't have it :'[*

Oh, I almost forgot these guys...ELECTRIC EEL SHOCK. This Japanese three-piece is amazing. They really do rock the f**k out. I think they should have their own genre...Electric Accent Power Rock or something.
Electric Eel Shock - Rock And Roll Can Rescue The World: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7eQjLrgmdI
"I play faster than Eddie Van Halen."
*SHREDS*
Epic.

Re: I seek attention
Yeah I really liked Yesterday's Rising in my junior high years. Forgot about them though! I'm not really a fan of Anthony Green personally. Have you guys heard of Cinematic Sunrise? It's Craig Owens singing more poppy songs. I like it even though I don't like Chiodos at all.
Re: I seek attention

Thought this was worth a double post.

Re: I seek attention
Anything released by EMI, Sony Music (formerly known as "Sony Music" and "BMG Music", then merged to form "Sony BMG", then Sony bought out BMG to once again become "Sony Music"), Warner Music Group or Universal Music Group is fodder for ethical piracy, in my opinion. I have no sympathy for those record labels or any of their umbrella labels, as their umbrella labels are basically controlled by them.
Bands may be signed to subsidiaries of these four major labels even if you are not aware of it.
E.g. Warner Music Group (WMG) is an umbrella record label of the following:
*** Roadrunner Records (Mastodon, Megadeth, Lamb Of God, Killswitch Engage, Kids In Glass Houses, Funeral For A Friend, Dragonforce, Dream Theater, Stonesour, Opeth, Nightwish, Porcupine Tree, Trivium, CKY, Down, Devildriver, Cradle Of Filth, Biffy Clyro, Airbourne)
*** Reprise Records (Disturbed, Dinosaur Jr., Depeche Mode, Michael Bublé, Avenged Sevenfold, Fleetwood Mac, Josh Groban, Green Day, Oasis, Stevie Nicks, My Chemical Romance, Rob Dougan, Smashing Pumpkins, Shadows Fall, The Used)
*** Elektra Records (Bad Company, Tim Buckley, Aphex Twin, Bjork, AC/DC, Busta Rhymes, Tracy Chapman, The Doors, The Eagles, Jet, Kyuss, Metallica, Missy Elliot, Motley Crue, Moby, Mindless Self Indulgence)
That is only a FRACTION OF THE ARTISTS on THREE OF THE SUBSIDIARY LABELS on ONE OF THE FOUR MAJOR LABELS. So multiply that by 10 times the artists and 10 times the subsidiary labels and four times the major labels. That's how much music is controlled by the Big Four.
The reasoning for me calling it "ethical piracy": they're all being assholes. Ripping music off of youtube, getting the Pirate Bay guys arrested, forcing Irish service providers, and probably service providers in other countries too, to do things they should not be obliged to do.
I will now post a quote from Wikipedia which is completely accurate:
I was under the impression there was such a thing as the Fair Use doctrine, and I was under the impression it existed in America, but it's apparently not and apparently people are really just assholes instead.

I have no sympathy for the four major labels. Ripping down covers of songs that are released by your subsidiary labels from youtube? Well done, like, what's that going to prove? It's just going to prove you're being an asshole about it and make people want to spite you. What monetary effect is people posting covers of songs on youtube having on Warner Music Group? It's just ridiculous.Wikipedia wrote:WMG formerly had an arrangement with YouTube for royalties to be paid according to the number of views that WMG artists received. However as of December 2008, negotiations between the two companies broke down, and as a result, clips on YouTube featuring WMG artists have had their audio removed or blocked completely and feature an explanatory message. This also happened with some of the clips featuring someone covering a song by a WMG artist. The response from users on affected videos has been overwhelmingly negative towards WMG. Notably, Seattle band Death Cab for Cutie were affected when music videos from their Atlantic Records-released albums Plans and Narrow Stairs—which they were streaming on their website—were removed by WMG.
I was under the impression there was such a thing as the Fair Use doctrine, and I was under the impression it existed in America, but it's apparently not and apparently people are really just assholes instead.
Re: I seek attention
Yup. The music industry is pretty much shot to hell thanks to the major record labels. Makes it almost impossibly hard for the actual good and talented bands to "make it" and the only bands that get through are the generic radio bands. I really hate Miley Cirus. She sells out arena's in seconds because of the Disney channel.

Does he still think we're the same person?
In relation to Miley Cyrus, I've no problem with kids liking her. Why shouldn't they? I don't listen to her, but a lot of people do. I like Breathe Carolina's cover of "See You Again". I was humming it one day, and my friend was like "YOU LIKE MILEY CYRUS!" I was like "WHUT NO PLZ I INNOCENT )="
