Ren you made a post like that just a little while back in your Lost thread and it was part of the reason I decided to post this here. It seemed like everyone here as been through something traumatic like this and I honestly never have, so I was hoping for some help from others who have dealt with things like this and weren't involved. But whatever.
Thanks anyway.
I never said you weren't? When did I belittle your problem, buddy? The only post I posted here was a joke directed towards Uberbeard.

From my experience, it's the people who seem least like they're going to do it that hurt themselves. People rarely see it coming.

Here's my professional opinion since I had to talk a friend off of a bridge once.

1. Don't EVER use "this is not the answer as an excuse." It's plain and makes them feel like you're just saying it. I've learned that their response will be "well, all of my problems will be over" or something of the sort and you've gotten nowhere.
2. Give them reasons to live: people, hopes, dreams, etc. but DON'T mention anything that went badly.
3. Make sure the KNOW you care. Offer them consolation once you're sure they're not gonna do it or before they'd do it.
4. If nothing else, mention what they're doing to the people they love. No one can bear to hurt loved ones that way if they realize they're doing it.

and I had other things, but I can't remember what. Just once you've started on it, don't pull a "screw it, ruin your own life" or else they will. >.>

Blorx, did you read what he said? He said that the person hadn't said anything about it, only that she seemed depressed. He can't go outright saying things like "DON'T COMMIT SUICIDE!" That would alienate his friend.

So the first person who posts advice is right and everyone else isn't allowed disagree. Good point!

Okay Ren, maybe I interpreted your post wrong, sorry lol.

Thanks Blorx, it's good to have an opinion from someone with first hand experience with this type of thing. I'll try and be like that the next time I talk to her and she acts like this again. Except maybe the part with the "remember your loved ones" bit, I've tried that one before and it didn't end too well, she has a lot of issues with her family and some of her other friends as well. Glabbit too, I'll try and think of that next time. And I don't mind if people want to continue giving advice or contradict others, I'm not confused by all of it and the more the better :) thanks guys.

Don't use the rolling-eyes smiley on me, I invented that.

And yeah, we're all TRYING to confuse him. What a stupid thing to say.

I kinda liked that poem, I usually have problems getting into things like that, but that one was actually pretty good, at least the parts I could understand lol.
And I was really only confused a little was because well, it was like 2:30 in the morning, and I read it kinda fast, wasn't really what he said. Let's drop it.

There was no possible way I could've guessed that. I just know it worked on my friend...typically when I mentioned his girlfriend...
