well does he know any music theory? and does he know how to play the piano? and did he record it via mic or import it through midi? and take the time to rearrange it with an editor afterwards? might be worthwhile to know since those could all be deciding factors.

if you really need an editor after recording for something other than sound quality adjustments, adding echoes, fx, etc, then you're either really incompetent or a bad musician. I can see the need for an editor in something that's done entirely on a computer, but if you're recording something through recording hardware on a physically real instrument and STILL need to use an editor to rearrange it, then you really need more practice.

true, but it can be helpful if a certain part's just a little bit sloppier than you'd like maybe I'm just a perfectionist.

If it's sloppy and I can't fix it after what literally could be upwards of 25 times, then I just upload as is and deal with the fact that I wasn't good enough yet and that I'll fix it when I can.
This is coming from an OCD kid.

Some, I'm guessing.
and does he know how to play the piano?
Kind of. She get's off rhythm a lot and plays wrong notes.
and did he record it via mic or import it through midi?
Import through midi. Which one do you think is better? (I've never done any recording or anything like that)
and take the time to rearrange it with an editor afterwards?
Doubt it.
Hmm, after typing all that out, I think I'll give it a try anyway, lol.
"Gee, thanks, doc! I'm cured!"

Personally I record through a Line6 UX2, which is a USB device, into Garageband. That usually entails hooking up the instrument with a 3/4 inch cord to the UX2 or sometimes with a microphone cord. There are no direct midi inputs or outputs on the UX2, however, so I don't record using midi.
Your best bet if you have a Mac would probably be to get a midi controller (one that looks like a keyboard, mind you) and run it through Garageband. This way the midi controller controls any of the software instrument parts you're working on in Garageband. This not only adds versatility, considering the only other ways are using Musical Typing (limited to one octave) or straight clicking one key at a time.
If you have a Windows, you can probably do the same with a different program but I'm not entirely sure. You'd have to look into it.

Basically, my younger brother and I were bored on a hot summer day, so we decided to make black metal. It's pretty simple (we weren't THAT bored), and not to be taken seriously in any way. and because it is black metal, it is supposed to sound that bad.

He does the guitar, I do the vocals. The drums were a loop on our electric keyboard, set to maximum speed.
