Spam bots.

Post by shadow717 » Wed May 27, 2009 11:14 am

Someone gave wolfire's address to spam bots. Now their popping up like crazy. It's getting annoying. I'm wondering if the admins can just start banning the bots instead of taking away our privileges.

Might this be a time to recruit extra Web-managing staff?
*hinthint, Jeff! <3*

EDIT: Checking a few other thread, I realise we're also starting to pick up on the number of morons... This may need looking at in a while, too...

If we're allowed to nominate people to be mods I nominate glabbit, invertin, Untadike, Jo-shadow, blorx, and maybe Andy. They could be the spam bot hit squad.

Edit: Ozzy would also be a good mod, so would nutcracker.

Yay I'm nominated!

...but seeing nutcracker on that list I'm not quite sure how happy I should be about that.
Eh, who knows, he might actually be good. Better than Tussler, anyway =D

Two things
1: I am not the prince of darkness or whatever
2: I don't think I would be able to handle the responsibility.

Also, banning bots wouldn't actually stop more from coming. I think that has to do with anti-bot stuff that's integrated into the forum and such.

Keeping in mind he's a forum member, not anyone with... ahem... actual real power around these parts =P

true, but the opinions of their members could influence the choices of the admins.

The admins haven't said they would be recruiting/adding any mods, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

I'm not, but I've talked to Jeff since I posted, and they are aware of the problem and are beginning to think about solutions.

This sounds good. I hope it's a solution they don't have to spend too much time on, though. I'd love to help and I'd hate them to become overworked. My preciouusssssssindiedevelopers =p

Yeah...

I actually see this problem as cruel towards Wolfire. They've got their hands full with OG, and they shouldn't have to deal with spam.
