OK, I see that most people have caught onto two concepts that I don't think Lotus is going for. First is antonyms, opposite words (Light but no dark); second is cause/effect (keys & locks, samurai & swords); from what I've gathered, it is sometimes about opposites, but they have to be related. For instance, green but no blue; those are both colors. Little but no big; those are both sizes.

Don't think this is a fool-proof theory, because spoon & cereal is kind of like cause/effect.

first was right. actually there's killing but no death, shooting but no guns, weeks but no days, and sadness but no frowns.
