help loading Oni on my 10.4 ppc mac
My latest noobish question:
Just tried loading Oni 1.36 from here:http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/g ... s/oni.html
tried to open it, I get:
"Alert: You need to select the installation directory for Oni."
then a button: "Select Retail Installation"
hit that button, and it opens a document folder(?!): Office 2004 Identities
as far as I can go then it's back to the first Alert and button above.
:/ anyone know what I'm missing in this process?
thanks for all help!

Ho! thanks, Blorx. I just edited the original post-- is what I loaded just a patch you add to the original game?Blorx wrote:I recently found it on Demonoid I think but legally, you can only get it here...if you wanna fork over $30...

that would make sense since it was free.

duh.
Thanks, though.
hmmm... should I buy it? Will it play OK with the update? I'd hate to spend 30 bucks...

Re: help loading Oni on my 10.4 ppc mac
Well you asked if it was just a patch. Updates usually are patches. xD
and yeah, it should work fine with the patch, or possibly without it. It's just when played on 10.5 or possibly on any other computer, the crosshair can be kind of wonky. Not game breaking...just a pain in the ass.

Man, the trailer under that link really shows just how much they downgraded this game before release.Blorx wrote:I recently found it on Demonoid I think but legally, you can only get it here...if you wanna fork over $30...

Huh, so what did they do to it? And then is it still cool enough to be worth $30?Zhukov wrote: Man, the trailer under that link really shows just how much they downgraded this game before release.

Re: help loading Oni on my 10.4 ppc mac
it's only dropped $10 since Feral released it like 5 years ago...I say it's a rip-off and found another way to get it...others may disagree.kehaar wrote:Huh, so what did they do to it? And then is it still cool enough to be worth $30?

Hehehe... my sister found the PS2 version in a bargain bin for £1.
Rightfully so, too. You might not think it such a great difference, but the PS2 version is TEH SUCK compared to the computer version.
I've got it working here myself by rediscovering my old and faulty disk, fiddling about, and downloading the patch. And it works! It wooooooorks!
Here's a hint that may help: Once you get the actual game and get the patch too, DON'T REPLACE THE ONI APPLICATION WITH THE PATCH!
I made this mistake many times in the past, and it resulted in errors I couldn't understand.
If possible, just have it in the same folder, but don't replace it :3
Is it worth 30 dollars? I couldn't say in so few words. Personally I'd say it's worth $60, but that's me talking with my mouth full of nostalgia. Others might say it'd be worth around $20 for a fair price.
Although, I can agree that with the game not having been the success it deserved to be, and it being so damn hard to find, it SHOULD be cheaper than even that.
My guess is, though, however you obtain it, as long as it works and you enjoy it half as much as I used to, then it's more than worth it.

Blame Microsoft. They bought out Bungie halfway through Oni's development and screwed the whole thing up, so basically most of the game is missing. They were even going to put in multiplayer, damnit! Sheesh, like I didn't already have enough Bungie-related reasons to hate Microsoft.

Yeah, they even blew the modding capability of Bioshock. ¬¬

Good concept, could of been better if bungie put as much effort into it instead of completely focusing on Halo.
