Recently, my laptop broked. It won't even turn on. Lo and behold, I open it up and what do I find? The entire motherboard covered with plastic. Now, I thought to myself, "How the f*** did that happen?" Then I that the fan was gone. I then realized that it's been more than a year and a half since I cleaned the insides. Lesson? Clean you computer regularly!

The fan. The dust clogged it (engine?) and it stopped. Then the computer got so hot, that it melted all over. Good thing we got a new comp!
Bad thing, it's vista.

Visa ain't all bad. I personally use XP2008 pro. Its like Vista, without the bad bits. Its all good.

Yeah, I use Vista too, and once you disable the UAC everything is fine. It's actually pretty fast too.

For me, it's more the constant program failure, the browser windows not closing, and plugins/java not working on firefox. Otherwise it's great.

thats just vista running on a machine not capable even when it says "certified for vista" on the box. I had all sorts of problems on my old laptop. Basic rule though, if you can, run xp on your laptop, save vista for the desktops.

It IS a desktop. The laptop broked, and we said, "Screw that shit!" and decided to get it.

Are you going to recycle it?

It's worth it.

Almost all programs for XP run on Vista fine with XP SP2 Compatibility mode. I've never had any problems with browser windows or plugins or Java not working. How much RAM did the computer have? If it's less than 2GB that might be the problem.

The comp that broked had 512mb of RAM. It was almost 4 years old, so it was getting really slow anyways. This new one has 3gb, so I'm happy about the speed.
