i completely disagree about "Thou shalt not pad the length of your games." i like travelling and looking at the awesome landscapes, it's fun and hey you might run into a couple of bandits, travellers, secret quests/missions it's fun to see how far you can strech a game before it ends

You are assuming that the game in question:
a) has awesome landscapes
b) has bandits or travellers
c) has secret quest/missions
... and...
d) that all of the above are fun

Red Faction: Guerilla was a serious violator of this one. It was a good game, but there was so much bloody driving between objectives. Even after you got the go-directly-to-safe-house upgrade, it was still a pain. That game was just begging for a Geneforge-style travel function.

i agree with you zhukov, the game needs some exploration elements that include some kind of gameplay that the player will enjoy while travelling. If the game is just wasteland and nothing really happens when you travel it sucks big time

Yeah; for example, in the first Assassin's Creed (which is a pretty old game, too), you could travel through "The Kingdom", a big mountainous plain, to get to the different cities. Had a lot of hidden stuff in there and was quite fun to explore.

Meh, most of these are at least half right, I don't agree with the part apart crappy weapons though. If games started with the SUPER ZOMG NUKE CROSSBOW OF LULZ then the game would only be fun for like 5 minutes, you start off slow and work your way up. In fact most of the "killing must be fun" part was just messed up in my opinion. And padding is acceptable as long as it is fun, Zelda and Metroid did kind of push it but were still amazing.
Also I don't remember ever playing a game with a quick time event. They don't sound very fun.

Makes perfect sense. But they let the Wii off too easy. It may be innovative, but WHAT ABOUT THE FUCKING GAMES?! Most of them SUCK cause the designers don't care to put any effort into them. AND IGNORANT NEWBIES STILL BUY THEIR SHIT, which keeps them in business. I think the real problem here, is gamer awareness. If the community makes a point of whats good and what's not, pretty much all of those "commandments" shalt be met-eth.

The article assumes that all of the above are not fun. It's the same thing. It's about preferences.

This is where I'm going to ask you to explain why the sales for the Wii are more than the sales for the XBox 360 and PS3 combined. They were the last time I checked anyway, and that was in the last 6 months. How many games have you played for the Wii, exactly? I don't have one because I prefer the XBox 360 and its games. However, I'm not going to make a complete fool of myself like you are by completely disparaging the console without any apparent prior thought.

I own a Wii...and I've gotta say that as far as the casual crowd (most gamers) goes, it's set for them...like there's a game for each one of em...

And as far as the hardcore crowd goes, there's always Twilight Princess, MadWorld, Brawl (maybe...it's not as much of a hardcore game anymore), the WHOLE DAMN VIRTUAL CONSOLE STORE, Super Mario Galaxy, etc

Another selling point for Wii. The Wii Store has the whole Virtual Console section, where you can get ahold of classics for around $4 or $5 each whereas attaining them elsewhere costs anywhere from $20 to even up to $300.
