Use gimp.

I tried it once and either I didn't like it much or I didn't give it a fair chance.

I can't use Gimp well. I don't know if I have an old version, or I just suck, but it seems very hard to use to me.

Yes, if I recall correctly it felt clunky and outdated to me. I ought to give it another try, one of these days, though.

gimp was updated and I heard its much better than previous versions (i.e. one window). I haven't installed it yet so I don't exactly know.
