Need some serious computer help here
Um. Just to give you an idea of how badly I messed up- How do I use the Windows System Restore thing... Without a start menu? It's just... Gone. I can't log in as my own account, I just get a blue screen and task manager wouldn't start up, so I had to log in as a guest in order to send this.
I think I may have downloaded something I shouldn't have.

I hate to say it but, this is why you want a Mac
What did you download, if you know that you did?
You might have to do a hard drive wipe, because backing up your hard drive would just carry the virus around with it, unless of course, you have something very important on it.
I would be freaking out as much as you probably are. Good luck!

Re: Need some serious computer help here
while we're at it (yes i know double post, im sorry)
im trying to install my printer to my PC, i have the disk and i insert it when prompted, but the wizard gets to the end, after installing the software from the disk, then says that the system cannot find the specified file location, then the toolbar says that it has found new hardware, (HP PSC 1400 Series) and it starts the wizard again, with the same result.
plus the PC alternates, one time it will find the HP PSC 1400 Series, and the other tim, it will find a HP PSC 1400 Series (Dot 4 USB)
i need help
please

Re: Need some serious computer help here
what exact model is the printer?
This is the furthest i can take you on that information
What you want to do is click your printer type, then go to Software & Driver Downloads, then click your operating system, then download the basic driver if they have one, if not, you can download the driver with features
If they bundled their "feature software" and drivers together with it, you may want to consider not installing the feature software crap
... it depends what it is, sometimes its useful (such as scanning software if you have a built-in scanner) ... sometimes its just a lame-ass/dumbed down version of photoshop ...

@Invertin: You ran system restore from Safe Mode?
As long as you're logged in as Guest, you'll never get the permissions for opening the task manager. That's why it is called the Guest-account: only for use by guests, who don't have permissions to change anything in the system.
Which version of Windows are you running? (XP Home / XP Pro / Vista / 7 / etc)
In order to access the task manager you'll need to login as Administrator.
In Windows XP Home, this account can only be accessed through Safe mode, using a blank password at the login screen.
Windows XP Prof. can login as Administrator without restarting in Safe mode. Use the password you've set during the installation. If you didn't run the installation yourself, contact the one who did this.
(Hint: if you can't see the Adminstrator account at the welcome screen, switch to the old-style login window by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del twice. Just fill in Administrator as username and log in)
Good luck

You can get much further with a kind word and a gun then you can with a kind word alone.

Re: Need some serious computer help here
Yeah, I would have just suggested starting up in safe mode and sorting things out from there.
@zoidberg rules: Sorry, printers are finicky to setup, and I don't really know how to help other than downloading the drivers separately from online. Try the official printer support forum if you can find one.
