It does produce an interesting, nearly-abstract form that your imagination tries to interpret, and which then creates imagery. In this case, worms or dragon-shapes are easy to see. The Alchemy sketching program utilizes the same effect (http://al.chemy.org).

Thanks for finding the symbol, it really bugged me, and I'm very new to both Japanese and Chinese so I couldn't find it myself.
