So yeah, I have nothing against him being in Death Note, if it is set after the Manga/Anime/Movies. It's just that I have never seen him in anything either than High School Musical, so I don't know if he is actually a good actor. So until I have seen him in something else, that I can bear to watch (so none of this cliche "Oh, I love him so much I want to be with him forever" shite) a decent film, with good supporting actors/actresses, I will reserve my judgment, and for the sake of ending this argument here and now, I hereby retract all of my previous flamings of him.zoidberg rules wrote:Unless it is set in a different time-frame altogether, in which case I WANT RYUK AT THE VERY LEAST!!!!

Well, yes, but I still think that they should not have light in this one, I therefore refer you to my earlier comments.
Re: What's your opinion on this?
Apparantly that poster is fake, so Zac might not be in it anyway. And if he does he probably won't have a beard.
Personally I wasn't keen on the anime either. You can call me an elitist, but the Manga will always be my favourite version of Death Note without compare. Though the main reason I didn't like the anime was because I imagined everyone sounding differently and I preferred my imaginary voices.

Right, you should have known that already.
The only time you'd be an elitist is if you're screaming about it like a moron. Everyone can have personal preferences, I never said they couldn't.invertin wrote:You can call me an elitist, but the Manga will always be my favourite version of Death Note without compare.
I never actually read all the manga, it started boring me when they added in all these characters after L kicked the bucket. It was like, oh god, we just killed a major antagonist to the main character, quick lets throw these goth lolita kids at him. I started reading it later, after they were introduced and it got better. Decent series overall.

Provide examples with sourced references, you insolent dolt.zoidberg rules wrote:Wow, Ren is telling US to watch a film before judging it, I seem to remember him judging many, many games before ever playing them.Renegade_Turner wrote:Jesus Christ, you haven't even SEEN them yet. At least wait until then.
Also, if it's a game and I've observed it being played, watched gameplay videos, watched numerous reviews of it and so on, I have a bit more of an idea of whether or not I'm going to like it rather than seeing a promotional poster for it.
Critiquing a film you've seen a promotional poster for, and critiquing a game which gameplay has been released for are two different things. I don't badmouth games without seeing them first-hand.
I'm not going to pick this apart because I assume your were being ironic, simply because I can't believe you could possibly have said that with sincerity.Sandurz wrote:You'd never understand, only a TRUE otaku would.
This is assuming you don't actually think being an "otaku" (a much-maligned Japanophile) is something which brings with it positive connotations. I can't imagine why anyone would want to label themselves as something like that.
Anyway, I've watched every episode of Death Note and even seen the 3 Japanese live-action movies that were made from the series, and generally enjoyed it as a whole, although I agree that, like The Usual Suspects, once you've seen it once, it's not so amazing the second time.
Wow, are you actually serious? That's like saying that they can't do Let Me In without a cast full of Swedes.zoidberg rules wrote:Plus there is the fact that you could not do the original storyline without Japanese people.

Re: What's your opinion on this?
Well, you could do it, but it just would not have the same feel to it, the whole point of it was that it was a really intelligent 17 year old Japanese kid with the power to kill almost anybody he wanted, and the Japanese government and his own father are unwittingly hunting him down without realising it's him. You could not replicate the feeling with Hollywood actors.
Or at least that is my personal opinion, feel free to disregard all of what I have been saying, since it was all my opinion, and what could have been a healthy conversation has turned into an argument.

Re: What's your opinion on this?
Wow, that's completely dumb, well done with that. Because Japanese people are super and infallible, and Americans are dumb and stupid and worthless. Do Japanophile arguments get any dumber? I mean, come on, I'm Irish, I don't love Americans, but the same way I don't love Japanese or English or Spanish people. What you're saying is just dumb.zoidberg rules wrote:Well, you could do it, but it just would not have the same feel to it, the whole point of it was that it was a really intelligent 17 year old Japanese kid with the power to kill almost anybody he wanted, and the Japanese government and his own father are unwittingly hunting him down without realising it's him. I do love myself though.

Poor you. If you haven't noticed, the only way it could avoid an argument was if everyone had the exact same opinions and agreed with each other. What would be the fucking point? We might as well all pick daisies and line our hair with them, followed by skipping off merrily into the sunset to live happily ever after. Cut that shit out, this isn't Sesame Street.

Re: What's your opinion on this?
I was being sarcastic you narcissistic prick, I am more than aware of the fact that we will not all agree on this subject, and this argument is the perfect proof of that fact.
And my point was that it was originally done by the Japanese and MY OPINION was that it wouldn't feel the same done by Americans.

what can I say, otaku annoy me (its not that they like anime/manga/japan/video games, its the way they act). I used to hang out with a bunch of them, and I had to resist the urge to make fun of them all the time...I eventually gave in to the urge.

Re: What's your opinion on this?
Jesus, people, this is Death Note we're talking about. Number one overrated thriller in the world. It may just be me, but I've found that there's nothing thrilling about watching for 10-15 minutes, waiting for someone try to see someone else's face for the sole reason of being able to write his name in a black book so that he can kill him...what? Why in god's name is this popular?!
Light is a self-centered emotional train wreck.
Misa Misa is simply an idiot.
Near...do I have to say anything about Near? He's a...12(?) year old kid that thinks he can replace a crappy version of Sherlock Holmes...by being a less exciting crappy version of Sherlock Holmes. Really, who the hell let someone that young on a life-threatening hunt for a self-centered prick?
L is...well...he's a crappy, Japanese rip-off of Sir Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes that gets it all wrong.
I shouldn't have to say anything about the Shinigami being retarded characters, as well.

Re: What's your opinion on this?
I never really understood why nobody liked the second arc of the story. L just died, sure, but Light is still alive, you can't expect a series called "Death Note" to end before the main protagonist is dead.Grayswandir wrote:I never actually read all the manga, it started boring me when they added in all these characters after L kicked the bucket. I also don't understand people who agree with Light. They're creepy.

They had a dynamic going that Near vs. Light couldn't pull off. Either that or it was because it just started getting silly.invertin wrote:I never really understood why nobody liked the second arc of the story. Just because I believe in the death penalty. Still, we won't say any more about the death penalty, because we want this to be a clean discussion, not an endless flame war over whether or not the death penalty is the right thing.
