I agree, and yet, being 5'7", I have trouble reaching the top two shelves at grocery stores. They always put things that no one buys up there though, so it doesn't really matter.

Keep in mind that the average woman is about 0.138888889 to 0.166666667 yards shorter than the average male in the U.S.



This means that men are doomed to hit their heads on things and women are doomed to not be able to reach things off the top shelf if the statistical average is always being used. Infact, by looking at the graph we see a trough like effect around the statistical average.

Unfortunately I can't find a variance for the human population so i can't calculate an interval of height that 99% of the population could reach.

I think the simple fact here is that we all live in very different places, and even have different height averages. I'm pretty sure in 'Merca (where I live) It's 5'11 for men, 5'3 for women. That's the last figure I have heard. I don't know what it's like in Europe, but here top shelves are high. According to some of your figures I'm an inch below average height, and I can't reach the top shelf most places. Not at all. My mom's 5'3, just about average, and there is no way she can reach. It is a bit silly Ren, but that's the way it is.

I think there should be a universally accepted average height.

Edit: also I'm surprised no one commented on me using inappropriate units to describe height. I guess you guys recognized my bullshit and chose the best way to solve the problem was to ignore it.

It makes perfect sense to use yards, but angstroms not so much. Instead you should have said:

Yards is a horrible unit ...

It's basically only ever used in football (American)
