...but you haven't seen anything to indicate that the gameplay will be changed from Bioshock 2. That wasn't actually a gameplay video, and what gameplay-like scenes it did show looked pretty much along the same lines as we've seen in Bioshock 1 and 2.

And saying that Bioshock 2 was better in terms of story smacks of silliness. I'm not sure I can take you seriously anymore.

Ragdollmaster wrote:Another potential issue: There was like a gap of 3 years between the first and second games, and now there's what, less than a year between 2 and Infinite? I really hope this is not a rushed game that looks glossy and attractive in the trailers and ends up being overpushed and overhyped crap on my console.
Eh?

Bioshock: December 2007
Bioshock 2: February 2010
Bioshock Infinite: TBA, at the earliest 2012.

December 2007 - February 2010 = 2 years 3 months.
February 2010 - January 2012 = 1 year 11 months.

4 months in the difference, plus add on that all games are given optimistic release predictions so early in production...

Where were you getting these time periods in your head from again?

Sometimes a little straightforwardness is required for us high school-aged squirrels. (If I am worthy of such a title). I was pondering if you were being serious in your post mentioning communism. Lol. Bioshock looks sexy by the way.

Communism could work in small tightly-knit communities, such as a small rural town or village, but when it comes to a grand scale it is monumentally flawed. Communism will never work as a form of government.

Capitalism also has its flaws, and I'm sure a lot more of the laymen who think communism is a good idea are supporting it for the right reasons, but good intentions don't run governments effectively, and while there is a lot of evil and greed in capitalist states, for example the 2008 banking liquidity crisis being caused by the greed of the banks, although all the governments still decided to bail them out, capitalism just works most effectively. Obviously there are still monumental fuck-ups, otherwise the complete monetary collapse of the developed world wouldn't have happened, but I imagine it's a far cry from the problems which communism would cause.

Wikipedia, of course.

Nah, I was basing most of them on a handful of (poorly) remembered facts, but for some reason I thought I remembered seeing/hearing that Infinite was coming out sometime in Q2 of 2011 :P Whoops.

Communism is also pretty cool, guys. Take it from a guy whose family lived in former Yugoslavia for quite some time (before everything went down the shitter, of course, but regardless)

As for the story: No, I didn't mean that the story in Bioshock 2 was better, per se, just more linear and easier to follow. Bioshock 1's story never really hooked me in until about halfway through the game when some serious shit starts going down- I actually got bored on about the third area and stopped playing for a few weeks before a friend raved to me about how amazing the game was, and then I finished it, much to my heart's content. Bioshock 2 had a clear goal defined from the beginning- namely, revenge. Of course, in a way, there was a bit of vengeance in Bioshock 1, but not until you find out that you are a widdle pawn and start raging against "Atlas". The story was still fantastic- I just had a relatively short attention span two years ago.

Maybe what I'm trying to say is Bioshock 2 had a more engaging beginning? That's probably closest to what I mean

The quality of a story is not determined by whether or not the reader/viewer has the attention span of a goldfish.

I found Bioshock 1 engrossing from start to finish. I've already trailed off playing Bioshock 2. I play it in patches. Last time was a couple of months ago maybe. In the meantime I've completeld Mafia 2, Mass Effect 2 twice, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, and I'm almost finished Shadow Complex.

a) When it comes to video game protagonists, revenge is the most overused motivation I can think of.

b) Fortunately, Subject Delta's motivation wasn't revenge. It was rescue.

Just sayin'.

Anyway, I'm with Ren on this one. Bioshock 1 had a far superior story. Especially with the whole subtle-quasi-deconstruction-of-linear-gameplay-would-you-kindly-slave-obeys thing. Also, an inventive use of the 'blank slate' protagonist.

I was really surprised when I got to the Neptune level at how hard it got. Wasn't expecting that. It was a good challenge. It also has a bunch of replay value, which I admire in a game.
