The men in anime look "surprised" when women swarm them probably because men in Japan must stay "conservative" and "professional".
Another interpretation is:
The men are actually horrified. This can be due to one of two reasons.
1) The male in question is attracted to his own gender, which would explain the large amounts of yaoi in the world.
2) The male in question has just realized that the swarms of women all want his semen, which when multiplied out as one dose per woman in a swarm, adds up to the total body weight of targeted male.
It's a scary world out there, boys. Make sure to eat your meat.

PS
When compared to American animations and primetime shows, anime has more complex, developed plotlines, and are accompanied with deep meanings and implications with real world issues. I am wondering if you are saying that you prefer mindless sex and violence, slapstick nonsense comedy, and black-and-white good versus evil conflicts, over the philosophical debates, challenged morals and ethics, and extended plotlines in anime.
Also, ever notice that American primetime shows are often disjointed episodes that randomly wander about until cancelation, whereas anime series go over a definate plotline with developments that were shown but not noticed as far back as the first episode? It makes the wise pause for thought as to the quality of American assemblyline TV programming versus the Japanese market.
Hmm... methinks the PS turned out to be longer than the initial post. *shrugs*

No, I prefer neither; even though I live in the United States, I generally look at the stuff that comes out of our 'culture' and say bleh. Really.I am wondering if you are saying that you prefer mindless sex and violence, slapstick nonsense comedy, and black-and-white good versus evil conflicts, over the philosophical debates, challenged morals and ethics, and extended plotlines in anime.
